I've been using Metabo BSZ12 drills at work, doing assembly, and they actually work really well, except they don't last all that long, so I was thinking of the C12 as a replacement, but I saw that they have been discontinued and are going to be updated? So my question is, should I wait for the new version, or be concerned about buying a discontinued product? The Metabos are the same way, they've been discontinued evidently, but they can be found online still, so can the Festools. I like the size of the C12 compared to the the bigger drills, and for what I need it for, the "lower" power is a plus. I use a lot of small screws, that break easy! Thanks for the input!!

They will be updated with newer versions in the second half of 2011. The new versions will have Lithium Ion batteries, a built in battery fuel gauge, a belt clip, and an integrated light. If those things are important to you then wait. If not, you will be well served by the current drills which many of our members here have had for many years and continue to get good use from them.

I grabbed the soon-to-be-discontinued C12 a few months ago. It is now available at a great price. Battery life is not a big deal to me, as it comes with two batteries anyway. All the centrotec attachments are the same. The other new features are unimportant to me.

I'd wait for the new types. The new design is quite an improvement. If you can't wait you can also opt for the T15+3. The new C12/C15 have the same technology as the T12/T15.
I generally like having two drills around depending on what I am doing.
Assuming you are thinking to go that route, consider getting one of the discontinued C12s with the extra chucks -- that way you can get one of the new drills later and save the money on the chucks (having gotten them with the closeout drill) and have the current C12 as your second drill... not to mention use it in the meantime.

I was delighted with my Bosch and Milwaukee drills until I got the C12 last year. The Big Red hammer drill still sees use, but the others are sitting in their cases.

And... at this point, you could probably buy a C12 now, use it until the Lithium Ion version comes out and sell it for nearly what you bought it for the way our tools retain their value. You could hang on to the right angle and eccentric chucks and then buy the "non-set" version of the new model, saving money. [wink]

The C12 battery life is good, but does not come close to my T12+3 or T15+3, which is incredible compared to any drill I've owned before.
The old C12 is a great wee drill & even the 1ah battery lasts for a good time. I also have the new C15 & the extra power is quite substantial & the light is a good addition. If 12 volt is enough power for you the get the C12 now at the discounted price, you wont be dissapointed. I doubt you will sell it for a newer model when they come out [big grin]

I appreciate all the info and advice, I bought a C12 today!! The local Woodcraft had one instock. I'm going to give it a shot for a little bit and if it works as good as I think it will, I'll be getting 4 or 5 more for the production area!! Again, I appreciate it!!
