Thinnest Kerf Blade on a TS55

Hi all.

Does anyone know of the thinnest possible blade available for the TS55? Any brand, although it would be handy if it were available in the UK. I have the universal blade that comes in at 2.2mm and am looking for something a little thinner...

Cheers!

I think you may be correct except for the "PSW-16052CB2TK".  It's got an ultra-thin kerf and requires a special, narrower Tenryu riving knife.

Regards,

Dan.

Ian,

At .063", I believe that would be the Tenryu "PSW-16052CB2TK" on this page: http://www.tenryu.com/ps.html .

Regards,

Dan.

That is the plate thickness, the kerf on that Tnryu is listed as .087" or about 2.2 mm.

This is the thinnest kerf blade that will fit on a Festool 55...

The actual kerf as measured in the wood (which is almost always larger than the manufacture's
stated kerf) is a mere 1.2 mm and this thing cuts great, at least as smooth as the Festool fine blade.
With the tiny kerf and low load on the saw it rips easily (and still smoothly) too. The obvious (and only)
downside is that the maximum depth of cut on the guide rail at 90 degrees is 26mm.

Michael,

I won't argue about the actual kerf, but manufacturers stated kerf for the Tenryu "PSW-16052CB2TK" is .063.  The plate on this is .040.  This is the 52 teeth, "Wood (Finish cuts) with Riving Knife".  The reason for the riving knife is the ultra-narrow kerf.

According to the manufacture, the Freud blade has a kerf of .049".  That's very thin.

Using the Freud specs as a baseline, this would indicate that the Tenryu's actual kerf will be something like .065.    Not as good as  Freud's kerf, but not too bad either.    And it's diameter is 6.66" for a deeper cut.

Each blade has its pluses and minuses.

Regards,

Dan.

p.s., All of the other TS55 Tenryu blades have the same, .087" kerf.

Thanks for the correction and getting me to take a closer look at that list Dan.
That does sound good. Now, where in the world can you buy one of those?

Didn't someone from Tenryu post a bunch of info about these blades 2 years ago?
It seemed like they were interested in getting feedback at the time but now
that they're actually manufacturing the blades why do they hide them?

Thanks for the links Dan and thanks Ron for locating that old thread. The top of the last page has the best info, including a picture of the very thin blade Dan mentioned.

That was just an assumption on my part.

Now that I've checked ProSawBlades.com the primary distributer of Tenryu blades I'm not so sure.

Every single blade for the Festool 55 saw is "out of stock". See here.

Where is Iain from Tenryu?

This is a good time for a reminder that the genuine Festool blades are still on sale.

I was disappointing to see the blades for the TS55 sold out the last time I visited ProSawBlades. I've been very pleased with my Tenryu blades. I'm going to have grab a few more where ever I can find them in case they are out of production for good.

Here is some contact info I just grabbed. I haven't checked any of this out.
If anyone has time to do so please post the results here.

I have a local dealer that carry's the Tenryu blades for the Festool saws.

I bought a couple for my 55 and one for my Kapex.

I still prefer my Matsushita that I had re-bored.

I just tried the phone #'s listed on the ProSawBlades site -- they are no longer in service.

EDIT: The girl (Sandy) at the Tenryu phone# advised that the Prosawblades is no longer carrying their blades (or perhaps any others?)  She directed me to "Keith" at Missouri Precision 1-314-487-2686.  They have the ultra thin blades & riving knives for the TS-55 in stock.

Thanks for the info Ron.

Ron,

My apologies for not being clear.  In my post above, the first link to "Inland Tools" goes to a the ProSawBlades site.  I agree.  It looks like it's out of business.  (Sign of the times.)

The second link goes to Amazon.  However, it's a little interesting.  This 28T blade on Amazon is sold by Missouri Precision: http://www.amazon.com/TENRYU-PSW-16028CBD2-Combination-blade-FESTOOL/dp/B001V9Q0D0/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=hi&qid=1276272499&sr=8-3 .  You can go directly to their site: http://www.mo2ls.com/.  Their website is confusing, but here is the Tenryu Festool page: http://mo2ls.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=TCTFS .

OTOH, This 12T ripping blade (http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B001V9QY9U/ref=dp_olp_new_mbc?ie=UTF8&qid=1276272499&sr=8-1&condition=new) is sold by "Inland Industrial Supply", which sounds like "Inland Tools".  But it looks like you can buy the blade from this company through Amazon.

It's a bit confusing out there.

Regards,

Dan.
