Just thought I'd inform the group on the TID 18. I recently bought one and was playing with the bluetooth function on my CT 36. I discovered that although bluetooth batteries come with the TID 18, the drill itself is not bluetooth compatible. When I put the bluetooth battery that came with the kit into my T18, the bluetooth function works perfectly.

Both the dealer and the regional Festool sales rep did not know this about the TID18. I eventually called FESTOOL head office in Indiana and their tech guy told me the TID18 is not bluetooth compatible. Actually a good thing I believe. Generally I'd only use a vacuum with a drill when I'm hogging out large holes with a forstner bit.

Cheers

This has been posted and discussed a number of times on here; I think Sedge also mentioned it in one of the many videos about the TID.

I believe it's a combination of price-point engineering (not usually a Festool thing) as well as the typical use case for the TID, which is almost always driving screws rather than making dust with a drill bit.

This you can safely rule out.

The batteries are where the "smart" is - that is why they work with any old tool which was introduced way before the batteries were - the battery checks the tool type and behaves based on that.
