Time for a Domino?

I know several of us brought this up before but taking the old metal down and building new railing from scratch would be faster and cheaper.
You wouldn't have to screw around fitting each one of the balusters sections on metal that is probably not consistent etc. etc.
You could build the sections (efficiently) in your shop, bring them to the home and install put the railing on and away you go.

I am building them at home. The openings are pretty dang
Close to square. They want to keep the metal. They are almost
Impossible to get to to remove. I will build the frames a tiny bit big
So I have some room to scribe and fit. Screws and plugs for the install
Of the inserts to metal.  The vertical posts are 4x4 and the upper
Horizontal is a 2x3, so they are stout.

Thanks for posting your progress on this project.
I have learned a lot.
It will be interesting to see the finished railings.

In my experience any glue ups with more than about 20 domino's is pretty tricky.

You may need to re assess your glue up method. 110 is not an issue, and the completed structure would be so much better and stronger than half laps.

The ten panels (yellow lines) would be done first, that way they would all be perfectly square and you would only have 16 Dominos per panel to worry about.

And like all Domino glue ups I do, I carefully glue and insert one half of the Domino into each rail first. Makes life so much quicker and easier to have it half completed before the final glue up. Then after each panel has dried, been scraped of glue etc, then its a simple matter of joining the rails (red)

I will assemble the baluster part first no matter what.  That lets you have a little freedom in the glue up of the whole assembly.

Not a problem.  I intend on trying to take some pictures of each step.

I say that I want to take pictures but, it seems like I focus on the work and forget to stop and take the pictures. [big grin]

I agree that they have a lot going on in that big room but, I am working on trying to make it all flow together.

They are two of the best people to work for, that one could ever find.

I also have a 1100 sq/ft room at this place that is in demo/electrical/drywall process.
I will shoot some pictures this week of the space.
