Tiny kitchen for toddlers

Hi everyone in FOG

Thought I'd share this little project with you, nothing fantastic I guess, but for me it was a great achievement, actually moving the boundaries for what I thought I was able to do.

All right, my daughter called me and asked if I was serious when I mentioned some time ago that I might consider building a small kitchen for my grand-children's garden playhouse. I couldn't say no of course, but now the birthday was only 2 weeks ahead.

So, I used Sketchup to test some ideas and get the dimensions right. Then converted these into a plan, and started cutting 9mm birch plywood.

I used my TS55R, OF1010 and an old Bosch jigsaw (Sorry no Festool - yet) and assembled everything with 4 mm Domino's - this was my first real Domino project, and apart from a few learning curve errors it went very smooth.  (Be sure you know your reference surface BEFORE you plunge...)

The kitchen is 70cm wide and 100 cm tall  (and the receiving kids are 2 and 5 years old)

Kitchen was delivered last weekend and was immediately put to use with great enthusiasm  - very rewarding for a granddad!!

Really nice design.  You did a great job incorporating other materials like the sink, cooktop and oven door.  I also like the color you used.  Was that painted by you or did you find material with the color on it?

Yes, the sink is a standard dog bowl, and just dropped into a hole in the worktop, so it can easily be taken out and emptied (and if it should get lost, easy and cheap to replace)

The cooktop is a 6mm plywood slab, bevelled at the edges, painted dark grey and glued to the worktop.

The oven door is also painted plywood and it is fixed, so you load the baking tray through the window. This to avoid hinges which will only cause problems, considering the REAL SAND cakes that will be made in the oven!
For this reason also, the oven sides and bottom are flush with the oven door window (easy to wipe the sand out)

I read that you used 9mm plywood? It´s hard to see from the pictures, but just looks thicker. If it is 9mm, then what size are the Dominoes?
