tips for doing hardwood flooring

I'm just going to float it...even if nailing is better, not following  instructions  probably voids any warranties.

If it is a floating floor definitely do not nail it. It's designed to float for a reason. I would use the foam underlayment that is recommended by the manufacturer. It will help reduct the click-clack noise from it not being nailed down.

I use a jamb saw and dust extractor to cut the jambs as well as all the base boards to allow for expansion.  I would glue it to the subfloor with a urethane glue like Bostic best or similar.  Make sure all the joints in the subfloor are sanded and vacuumed.  I usually take a 9" grinder with a 36 grit flap disc to the entire subfloor to remove any drywall mud or paint reside. Then vacuum twice to get everything out of the pours. No need for traditions.

Always start with a good base. Your finish product is only as good as your prep.  Here's a few pictures of typical prep on a subfloor. I do the same for concrete slabs too I just use a Dimond concrete disc in place of the flap disc. The grinder is pictured. It has a pearl abrasives dust unit on it and is 99% dust free.
