I'm looking to do a one off paint scheme on a systainer.  I'll certainly post results once I get it done.  As I plan out this project, I'm thought I'd ask around for tips on painting the systainer.  What prep work have you done?  What paints?  Did you primer first?

I have not painted a whole Sys but I have painted latches. I used spray paint. Some are supposed to be better for plastic. Not sure it really matters.

But clean thoroughly with something that will strip and residue and oil.  I like plain 70% rubbing alcohol.

I would be inclined to prime.

I would not expect any type of paint / method to not end up getting scratched.

How intricate is the paint scheme?

Thank you Seth for the quick response.

I'm thinking two colors, not too intricate, kind of like some strips.  I don't want to give the design away, but we are getting close to football season.  [cool]

This is mostly a for fun project, not necessarily something to last forever or even a specific performance requirement.

Whenever I’ve painted plastics I always use adhesion promoter. Found it to make a significant improvement over not. Could always clear over the color too.

Remember light coats of all products rather than thick.

Here are the results of what I did last summer.  I tried some light sanding and and then cleaning and wipe down.  I didn't use a primer or a clear coat.  This unit is really more for display.  I use it lightly around the home.  There are several good suggestions in this and other threads and next time I'd consider those more such as automative paints and setting up a spray booth.  I just used spray paint I got at a local supplier.

Looking at your results it came to me that there are some really good chemical paint strippers available.  [big grin] [big grin]
