Tool decisions....

Hi Guys,

New to the forum and just a hobbyist and had a question regarding building my first shop.

I currently own a TS 55, OF 1400, ETS 125, MFT/3, CXS. I also have a sawstop cabinet saw, dewalt dw735x planer, dewalt jigsaw, and a bunch of hand tools.

I'm currently debating what to get next and was having a hard time deciding between the Kapex 120, Domino DF 500, or a Laguna Bandsaw 14".

I'm trying to get the most bang for my buck and also at the same time give me a tool that would offer maybe something I don't have the capability of doing yet.

What would you get first, and / or what else would you be getting instead. Eventually I'll probably get everything I need but i'm looking more into something like a priority list.

Those are all invaluable tools to have. I have all three (Jet Band saw), but the Kapex gets the most use. Get what you will use/need the most. With better production and will hopefully get you the added income you need to move to the next one. If you do a lot of Mortise and tenon work, the Domino will generally save you a ton of time and might have the greatest value for time.

First,  welcome to the FOG!  You seem to have have cutting covered in many ways.  Personally of your stated choices I would go with the domino.

Without knowing what you are doing it is hard to compare tools.
If you were cutting moulding then the kapex, or making door then the domino.

It is like saying a corvette is better than a pickup truck.

I would get the band saw, but I would be unlikely to use a Kapex because I do not do those sorts of cuts.

That's a tough one!!

My next significant purchase will be a bandsaw, but I do already have KAPEX and Dominos.

ya like some members pointed out, all depends on what youre mainly focused on making. if you do alot of trim work you dont need a band saw you want the kapex, if you do alot of furniture table/chairs you can get away a table saw and would get the domino dont need the kapex. one tool shines best which is why everyone has their favorite most used tool in the shop.

I found the Domino to be a complete game changer in my woodworking. It is an amazing tool for joinery.

A really solid bandsaw is the safest way to make many cuts and is the best way to do resawing. I'd recommend looking at an 18" rather than the 14" you mentioned.

I use my Kapex often, but your table saw, with jigs, can make most of the cuts the Kapex does.

I'd go with band saw, Domino, and Kapex in that order.
