Tools stolen

waste of a perfectly good systainer. I wouldn't even want to waste a mini on somebody like that.

In the US there is a historic president where we hung horse thieves 'cause the horse was basic to sustaining life & making a living.

It's precedent, not president.  The President is George Bush.  A precedent is something that is meaningful in a symbolic way.

Though hanging your president may not be such a bad idea...  ;D

Liberal or not, you are right in the suggested action. Add one thing...put the guys ashed in a Systainer and give to victim.

Why not just save some postage on those ashes and send them in a CT Filter Bag?  People like that certainly do suck!

Well, what a rough week this was! Coming back from the shop with 2500 euros less ( 3500 USD ) i have replaced the following indispensable tools:

- CDD replaced with a new C12 with 3 amps batteries. The new product is much better than the old one. It is more balanced and lighter. Yet it is more powerful. I took the kit with right angle, offset .
- Rotex 150 replace with a new Rotex. Had it not be for lots of abrasives for th eRotex that the thieves left behind i would have choosen the new Bosch 150 excentric which i really liked ( very strongly built and a good grip ). In fact i do not like the new Rotex as much as i loved the old one. The feel is very plastic and the balance is not right for me. I suppose i get use to it.
- DTS 400 replaced with a DTS 400. To me one cannot do without this tool. Reaches everywhere. Very light and pleasant to hold. A must.
- Symmetric 70: was out of stock and i ordered one
- Metabo grinder 230 replaced with a Makita 230 ( good deal from my dealer )
- Metabo hammer/drill replaced with a Makita ( good deal from my dealer )
- Centrotec kit: out of stock i ordered one because it is such a good value and it is so handy.

The rest of the tools will have to wait a bit before they are being replaced. Top of the list will be the router OF 1010 one of my favourite.

Have some class huh.  Disagree with people fine but don't make stupid comments, even if it is a poor effort at a joke.  You don't makes jokes about such things.

I agree. I am by no means a G.W. Bush fan. In fact, I have become more interested in politics in recent years for precisely this reason. OTOH, comments like this are, and have been treated very seriously by the U.S. Secret Service (presidential protection) for decades. I don't agree with many of the oppressive Patriot Act policies of recent years, but I also remember Kennedy's assassination, the attempt on Gerald Ford, and Reagan's near miss. It is no joking matter!

Hang on a second - A previous poster (Jim) suggests that petty theives should be subjected to a public hanging, but I make a JOKE about hanging a man who, in the eyes of millions of people around the world illegally invaded several foreign countries for his own political ends & control of oil, killing hundreds of thousands of people in the process, and I get jumped on for it???

Seriously, you need to get a sense of humour, or at least a sense of perspective!

Oh God, don't mention their Pres-ee-dent for heavens sake. Americans are largely wonderful people but there are always a few with over inflated ego's. Before they fire back let me just say that our Prime Minister is a mean spirited left wing control freak, so there. All this kind of crap does is cause bad feeling.

All right everyone,
Stolen tools is a serious matter!

I've mentioned before that it would be nice to develop a stolen tool directory, so we can perhaps catch, or at least deter, people who do such things.  Most of the time, tools are stolen and resold.  If the serial numbers of the stolen tools are reported here, it's possible that the innocent buyer of the stolen tools would be able to report them.  I'm working with Festool on what we might do once we have positively identified the thief.  But it starts with people reporting the stolen tools and citing the serial numbers here.

ririmarqueverte, do you have the serial numbers for the tools?

Sorry to hear this has happened to you, but maybe we can do something about it.

Stay in touch,
Matthew

Everyone,
I woke up this morning to a rush of "reported post" messages in my in box.

There have been some pointed remarks about political leaders.  Please let's end it there!  Believe me, it can only create unwanted bad feelings from this point out, regardless of whether people agree or disagree with you.  I want lively, opinionated people here, and I encourage that.  And I know all intelligent people have political opinions, but most members (the vast majority, actually) come to this forum to temporarily escape from that.

Matthew

Having your equipment stolen is a terrible thing but every day I work with people who leave their tools onsite because it is just too much bother for their lazy selves to put the tools in their vans and take them home to a safe place. When they get stolen they then complain. Fact is it is a cruel world out there and you have got to take care of your business and do what you can to protect your interests. Stuff will still get stolen but make it as hard for them as you can.
Just think yourselves lucky you don't live in the UK where the police have effectively given up on policing unless it has some politically correct angle to it and you are likely to be arrested for infringing the criminals rights.
At least you Americans can still shoot the bastards.

Leaving political opinions aside, let's not rest on the security issue. We're here because we love our tools. And to that end, let's stay conscious on ways to keep them safe. We're a group of great minds, and I know we can come up with good solutions. Removing them from the job site is one obvious solution, but not doing it doesn't mean you're lazy.
I've noticed that the hollow in the front corners of the systainers are not only open, there's a hole in the bottom of each corner. There has to be something Tanos offers that utilizes this. I'm thinking some sort of stainless cable with lock. Maybe a gripple would work. Something like the gang lock suggested by Mirko could lock everything to a roller boy, and maybe further to the job itself. I have a friend who routinely puts a few lag screws through the back of his Knacke boxes to keep everything where it should be. Let's move the theft discussion back to the security thread. See you there.http://festoolownersgroup.com/index.php?topic=1364.0

My previous comment was meant as joke about the slip-up Jim Daly made with the words 'precedent' and 'president', and was in no way meant to offend anyone. I thought it was quite clear that it was meant in jest, and didn't think anyone could possibly take it as seriously as some obviously did.

As Matthew pointed out this is a forum about Festool, not politics. If I did offend anyone with my comment, then I sincerely apologise.

Regards,

JRB

Jobsite boxes work very well for securing tools on a job site.
They have holes in the bottom, that will allow you to bolt them to the floor.
They do not cost alot when compared to the cost of tools & aggravation of having them stolen.

Jobsite Box

Chris,
Check the security thread. A couple people told me how to defeat the Knaack box but didn't want to post it on the net. Send me an email if you want the details.
Mike

I'm gonna make my systainer cart out of industrial diamonds and titanium.
