Torx?

A quick, almost embarrassing question.  I have a cargo trailer that I am trying to fix the sky light in.  The screws look like torx but they don't fit my torx.  What would they be?  Thank you.

Jon. A picture is worth a thousand words.
Any way to get one? Some times in a pinch I use Allen wrench in torx and torx bits in Allen head screws.

I doubt I could take a picture.  It is in a dark trailer looking up at a dark ceiling with a bright sky behind it.  I tried some SAE allen wrenches and they didn't work.  Thanks.

There are several variations of torx bits. Check somebody like Wiha tools USA they have photos of each. Hope this helps, Chris

I have Festool torx.  It is either between the 15 and 20 or the 20 and 25.  I forget which.  Do they make torx sizes between these?

Possibly a Torx Plus they have  more rounded corners than the regular Torx bits that are pointed at the ends

No, they make a 27 Torx but that is larger than your options. Difficult to diagnose from 35,000 feet without a photo.  [smile]

I have one of those new-fangled phones that fold in half like a billfold.  I think it takes pictures but I don't know how.  It's not very smart.

If it is 8 point, a square drive bit will work.

It’s probably a double square head (8 points).  You can use a square bit on it.

Count the points.

    Could be double square / eight point. Triple square which is not the same as twelve point. Torx plus or something else. Would not be surprising to find a less common fastener type on a cargo trailer.

  This wiki may help ..........  screw head types  The heading says torx but scroll down it shows a whole bunch.

If you can’t take a pic, take some clay or something malleable and stick it in the head. Bring it out slowly and you should be able to see what you need. Take it with you to the hardware store.

Just a thought, make sure you are trying the right sized Torx bit.
