Tracksaw dust port fix?

The TS55 REQ dust port will rotate down, which often stops the saws forward movement, when the hose catches on the side of the wood being cut. I have one of the end pieces for the track but that is not always feasible as the dust collector may be on the far side and I do not want to move it, so the hose must slide down the side of the wood as the tracksaw moves along. Has anyone modified their port so it only swivels say 280*? The down flop of the hose has been bugging the heck out me lately when cutting in not so perfect body positions.

As I understand it the dust bag attachment port does just what I am looking for, is that correct? Does someone that has the bag setup have feedback when using it with a dust collection hose? Although I would rather modify what I have if possible for free, and welcome any advice on doing so. At this point my tracksaw has sucked up way too much money.

Placing the hose like this is not always feasible.

Edit: This is the dust port I was referring too.http://www.hartvilletool.com/product/8802/festool-plunge-cut-saws

Here is the only thread I could find discussing it really.http://festoolownersgroup.com/festool-wish-list/ts55-req-35490/

I wrapped Teflon pipe tape around the plastic dust port to tighten up the movement of the dust port with the saw casing. 3 or 4 wraps of tape did it for me.

The rotating dust port drove me mental so I finally picked up the dust bag port.

It installs easily and it works.

Ya, it works pretty slick with either the bag or the hose. The fitting has detents that prevent it from changing positions.

FWIW... both of these photos were in the proper position when added to this thread, for some reason the first photo was rotated 90 degrees CCW. [eek]    [member=57769]TylerC[/member]

Yah, I have one-for each saw.

They work great.

So far the consensus is buy the dang dust port. Grrr...I really don't want to spend another dime on my tracksaw, as I feel like I have way to much into it.

Has anyone modified their original port to not turn all the way around?

What is it that stops the replacement dust port from turning all the way around?

Tom, just curious seeing as you don't have 3 arms... [poke]...do the 55's have different blades mounted on each one?

How do you know I don't have 3 arms? ???

Shop and field. I'm not one to sell tools, I'd rather give one to our son or son in law. 75 lives in the CMS (don't tell Festool USA).

FWIW, the dust bag does a pretty great job at catching dust, so it's a nice perk of the new dust port if you snag the bundle with the bag. Just note that it may fill quickly depending on what you're cutting. I'd say you can cut about 40' or so of 3/4" material before dumping.

I agree completely with Shane.
I purchased the port & bag from Tool Nut and would encourage you to purchase both of them at the same time. If you only have to cut something 2' long you can use the bag, otherwise you use the vac. Pretty slick. [thumbs up]

I will 2nd or 3rd Shane's statement about the bag,
It works surprisingly well.
One does have to empty it a bit more though.
Thanks,Charlie

Ps. Maybe the Op can glue or otherwise wedge the port in the direction he wants.

I ordered the dustport together with my saw a couple of weeks ago.
Apart from the detents, another advantage is that it can now make a full rotation, the standard port hits the bevelknob.
A disadvantage is that you have to remove it before putting the saw back in it's systainer (it won't nest properly in it's inlay because the longer dustport touches the side of the systainer). (For this, modifying the existing one is a better solution)

When installing it's good to know how to put the little springclip back that holds the outside splinterguard/window:
