Hello

I have used the search and just confused myself more lol

I have the OFK 700 , and want to use it to trim EdgeBanding, what is the actual difference between the OFK 700 and the Conturo MFK 700?

If I can purchase the extra parts to add the different bed to the OFK, what is the part number?

Thanks

Dale

You really have a choice of running your trimmer in horizontal or vertical orientation. The base joiner1970 shows for the Basic is for the vertical approach .. it's not a bad base, has a bearing brake and the black mouldings can be removed for navigating inner curves. The 1.5o base is your other option - the slight angle is there to protect the face of the material you've edged.

The swanky new trimmer bits from Festool are mostly intended for the MFK700 basic - they're not cheap and there're different ones for different thickness edging.

I just ordered an MFK700 Basic myself ... I think it's a setup you would tend to adjust to suit and rarely alter until you needed to replace the cutter.

Incidentally, the little metal scraper (that cones in the Conturo accessory set and is stupidly expensive by itself) is really good fine tuning the shape of a plastic edge after you've trimmed it.

Hi,

So what would you recommend as my best action,  use the base as fitted ( I believe from the documentation its also at 1.5degrees), or buy the other base?

Yes the scraper is expensive, I bought it without realising it was in the kit that came with the Conturo  [mad]

I just noticed my supervisor in the top left of the picture!

If you don't see yourself running tight inside radiuses or inside corners go with what you have. If you do inside corners get the vertical base.

^^^ That's the wisdom.

OK, as soon as the banding has arrived I will give it a go!

Proper bit/router set up is key to successful trimming.

I use the MFK700 to regularly trim edgebanding from the veneer type up to 3/8" using the Horizontal 1 1/2 degree base. Setuo properly you won't damage the veneered sheet good. Even with the not so great veneered plywood. The other bases can be a little more problematic. If trimming a lot of 2 to 3mm PVC edgebanding your best bet is the new base and cutter introduced for the Conturo shown above.

OK, its going to be almost all 2mm Plastic, so the new base will need to be ordered

Thanks

[member=61125]dalep[/member] my MFK700 Basic turned up today .. the Oz ones come with two collets .. YAH! [smile]

Think seriously about buying the separate base and consider the cost of the complete unit that comes with the base + Systainer, etc along with the fact that once you have the Basic unit set up you'll probably leave it that way. It may be more sensible to buy the complete machine.

My thinking is that I'll decide on a couple of the fancy replaceable tip cutters for the MFK700 Basic and dedicate it to trimming edge band and possibly get an MFK700 Set version with the horizontal trim bases if I find the need to do "other stuff".
