truck systainer tool box

I recently bought a more recent truck, on my previous one i had made a box to hold systainers above the bed. And it was a great feature but i built it to high.
This time i had to make a new one with a few improvements, it can house 4 systainers in width, and a sys4 in height or 3 stacked sys1's.
Theres a little spare room in the middle for other stuff, and a storage shelf at the rear to optimise the space between the bed end and the rear window.
The box doesn't touch the bottom of the bed so i can still slide a couple full sheets under it, and the top of the box follows the sloping line between the rear view mirror and the tailgate, this way it doesn't obstruct my rear view in any way.

it is made out of marine ply edged with an aluminium profile, i also sanded the heck out of the ply and painted it to match the truck better. It is simply screwed with 4 screws into the thick plastic bedliner, it's quite light and removing it take less than 2 minutes.

i don't often do job site work, but when i do i am happy to have everything in there protected from the weather. Theres no lock because i couldn't figure out yet how to put something on there that wouldn't look terrible and i never leave anything in there at night anyway.

Seeing this may be the first of the kind ever posted here it may be funny to come up with a name!
my ideas were "SUV-port" "truck-port"  or whatever.
the coming week im getting the lettering done on my truck, if a nice name pops up i will get it done as well and stick it on there :p

Ditto
I have several "waterproof" tool boxes that always get full of water every time it rains if they are left exposed to the ellements.

Actually the aluminium L profile around the top seems to be enough, it's a bit wider than the plywood thickness so it covers the gap.
That said i can't guarantee anything during heavy rain and wind, but the box isn't designed in this case to hold any bare tools permanently.
It's mostly there to suspend systainers above the bed so i don't lose depth, like you would with regular truck boxes.

I've got a van vault in my van similar design to yours . Its designed to be used on an open back truck. Mine takes 4 systainers wide and will take a 4 and a 1 high maybe a 2 a can't remember.

I like the sloping top idea for the vision.

Hmmmmm, trucktainer..... wouldn't that be to put a truck in for storage ?  [big grin]

How does that figure? Does SYStainer mean to put a sys-...? for storage?  Not trying to be a smart ass, just don't know what systainer means actually :D

SYStem... really generic... could mean anything actually ???

Have you not heard anyone ever say that festool is a system ?????????

You wanted to know what systainer actually meant I told you ,its short for system container.

Ah chill, wasn't knocking on you.  Just thought Festool or whoever would name the container a TOOL container or some such moniker rather than a SYSTEM container since a system usually refers to a bunch of tools/accessories working together in a synergistic way.

And here I was all this time thinking it was short for "Store Your Stuff"

Just joking around. Trucktainer ...... could be either way.  [wink] I have a Cooltainer and I guess I don't put Cool in it  [cool]  ???

System Container it is.

Store Your Stuff ..... good one.  [smile]
