TS 55 Cover plate worth it?

I have been using my TS 55 a lot lately.  I noticed that the only dust left behind seems to come from the right side of the saw since it is open.  Is the cover plate worth it?  Does it interfere in any way? I assume all it would do is close things off and eliminate the remaining dust.  Thanks

The dust cover will aid with the small amount of dust emitting, but there are some downsides - you can't use the cover when making a bevel cut and you can't use the saw's splinter-guard.

It works very well but you'll still get some dust at the end of the cut once your blade breaks throught he board.

I bought the TS55 cover plate soon after buying my first TS55. However, since that does not work with the "presser foot" splinter guard, I do not use my cover plate. I am willing to clean up some dust in favor of the improvement of off-side cut quality from using the presser foot.

Using a 36mm hose instead of the 27mm hose will almost make up for the lack of the cover plate.

Cutting onto a firm sacrificial surface will avoid dust dropping below. Using a piece of scrap at the end of the cut not only reduces tear-out, but reduces dust thrown ahead of the saw.

Does this mean you clamp the scrap piece to the end of the cut?

Sorry about the missing thumbnail pictures.  I will try to add them back in, not sure what happened to them. The review was done a along time ago.

The pictures will still come up if you click the little links.

Yes, I select as wide a piece of scrap, the same thickness as the work, as will fit on the sacrificial surface. Once clear of the work, I cut into that scrap as I allow the blade to lift clear before slowing down.

For the next cut I just slide the scrap enough I will have a little wood on both sides of the kerf.

My experience is the tape helps a lot, but wont do anything for the close to the edge cuts. So for this dust control it might be  worth getting the cover plate.

Make your own, that's what I'm doing. That way you customize it to what ever you want.
