I'm in the need to straight line rip over 200BF of 8/4 ash in prep for building a workbench.  Would it be possible to use my TS 55 EQ not on the track, but registered against the opposite/thick side of the track directly on the lumber to utilize the full 2 1/8" cutting capacity to rough straight line rip this lumber.  Ash is pretty hard, and I would be at max capacity, so I'm guessing this isn't the best idea, but I thought I'd ask before muscling this stuff across my jointer.  I don't have the budget for its big brother, but it may move up the priority list the more I work with thick hardwoods.  Thanks.

It'll cut 55mm off track. You should probably use the Panther blade for that rip, maybe get by with the Universal Blade.

I've cut plenty of 8/4 maple on a track with a Panther blade for a workbench.... probably just depends on how much is planed off the original 8/4.

If you've got it registered against the back of the guide rail, that should work too.  Maybe even better with the Parallel Guide (491469)?

Thanks very much for the feedback.  The lumber is rough cut on both sides so I'm not seeing how the parallel guide would help straight line rip.  There isn't a straight line to reference off of.  I'm sure I am missing something here.  Thanks.

You'd have to make 1 straight line rip, of coarse, then you can use the parallel guide all you want.  Your "keeper" pieces would be to the right of the blade (instead of to the left, like you would with the guide rail) so you'll have to account for the blade width when setting the parallel guide's distance.

My plan is to use the TS to get one edge straight enough to use as reference on the fence of my BS to rip the boards to their initial width pre milling.  Lots of ways to skin this cat, just trying to consider all of the options at my disposal considering the tools I have on hand.  Thanks again for the suggestions.

Clean up one face on your jointer. See how much material is left. Maybe run it through your planer next...before you straight line rip. It is doubtful that it will be over 50mm. I agree with Mr. Bellemare, use a panther blade.
