A TS 55 REQ will be arriving soon. At the moment I plan on sawing plywood but that can change. A pal said he would give me some sycamore. Is the blade that comes on the saw fine or do I need different blades? The usual informed opinions would be very helpful.

Hey SS Teach, congrats on the new saw.  The supplemental manual by Rick Christopherson provides a very good explanation for the various blade types and applications on page 10.  the blade that comes with the saw is great for plywood.

I kept the 48 tooth one for best and got an 18 tooth (if I remember it right) one that cost 22 quid for flooring and so on.

Sycamore is in the same range of hardness as SYP and lacewood. It's more stable if quarter sawn. Cross cuts with the 48 tooth blade and rips with pieces up 1.25" should not be an issue.

Make sure you clean the blade afterwards.

For years, I've been using the rip blade (12 tooth) and standard blade that comes with the saw for sheet goods and solid timber and haven't needed anything else.

Thank you for the quick U. S. and international replies. Taking the advice given, a Panther blade is coming.
