I went to Woodcraft and they had a sign saying the TS55 REQ was no longer available and that owners should contact Festool directly. I called Festool and a very helpful rep (Rebecca) told me there was a problem with the plunge action on some saws and that I had three choices. One was to send the saw in for repair or replacement but she had no idea how long that would take or when a replacement would be available, next was a full refund on the purchase price, last was an even-up exchange for a TS 75. I said I wanted to think about it and that I would call back. The guys at Woodcraft thought that if I like the saw I should just keep on using it. I love the saw but I figured Festool wasn't doing this if continuing to use the saw was a good idea. I called back the next day and another helpful rep (Elaine?) gave me the same information. I told her I wanted to go with the TS75. She said I had two choices. They would send me a tag to UPS my saw to them and they would ship or I could leave them a CC number and they would ship immediately and provide a tag to return my saw. I went with the immediate shipping and the next morning I had the new saw. You couldn't ask for better service.

I did the same resolution as you. Any retailer advising continued use should have their head examined. And welcome to FOG.

I made the same choice and while I haven't used the TS75 yet, I'm super happy with the level of service from Festool.

I did the same as well and got it the next day. I really like the TS 75. The only problem is, it makes the rail that came with the 55 look pretty small... had to get another rail as well. All is good though and Festool service is top notch.

[welcome] to The FOG.

Needless to say, there has already been intense discussion of the TS55REQ situation her, to the extent Moderators here have locked most of those threads.

Meanwhile your new TS75 will require a 1900mm (75") guide rail. Many dealers will swap a standard 1400mm rail supplied with the TS55REQ for the langer rail for the difference in price. That is up to the individual dealer. Maybe you can make such a deal with your dealer.

It is an embarrassment that anyone at a Festool dealer would advocate continued use of a TS55REQ given the recall. Clearly not all employees of dealers are equally sharp. Such is life.

Personally I returned both of my new TS55REQ with the request they be repaired when possible. I do own many other TS55 with are now worth their weight in gold and I have more TS75 than I need. My thinking is that those of us who selected the repair option will likely be the first to receive the revised TS55REQ. In the time all of us in my shop tried the TS55REQ we found nothing wrong with it, but for the way we use the TS55s there was no advantage to the TS55REQ. I bought two of them expecting over time to find they would do an even better job for me than the trusted TS55. That could still happen.

Festool has notified the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Health Canada of a potential problem with the plunge mechanism on some TS 55 REQ Plunge-Cut Track Saws.  While investigation is continuing, Festool, in cooperation with the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), intends to recall affected units. If you have a TS 55 REQ Plunge Cut Track Saw, please discontinue use immediately and call Festool directly at 1-855-784-9727. This thread is closed temporarily for discussion and Festool will provide further information as it becomes available.

This thread and any other thread about this topic will be locked until further information is available for us to share.

We are redirecting all new posts regarding the recall to this one thread ........... TS55REQ Recall

Please use that thread for all new posts on the topic.
