TS 55 - unable to cut deeper than 25mm

Just got my very first Festool, a TS 55 a week ago and decided to check that the Blade is Perpendicular to the Sole Plate. So, pulled out a piece of 1" MDF and set my scale to 30mm, but when I pressed the blade release button, the blade would go no further than 25mm. It's as if there's a physical "stop" at that point. Had a cursory look, but can't see anything that sems to be preventing it from going past 25mm.
  Would really appreciate any suggestions.

Hi, that's about the same depth as the fast fix for the blade change maybe it broke. if brand new take it back,if used maybe the throw is stopped inside the cover plate, also check return spring onleft side of mtr@ the front. guy

I might misunderstand the problem, but 30 mm depth setting is without the track. At that setting on the track the depth of cut will be 25 mm. Does the tab on the motor housing stops against the scale depth adjuster when you plunge?

Have you set the scale stop deeper than 30mm to see if it will go further?

Seth

Yes, I set the scale as deep as it will go and, it does seem to be the exact same place the Fast Fix stops the blade at, so I think Guy may be right.
I bought the saw from Screwfix and got a shock when I opened the systainer. It was a very disappointing sight. It looked as if the saw had been unceremoniously "dumped" upside down in the systainer with apparently no packing whatsoever to protect it. Having never owned a Festool product, I didn't know if this is how they are usually shipped. The Fast Fix lever is very slightly damaged, has a black smudge on it and smudge marks on the casing and the manual.
I wrote to Festool and they said that I'd be entitled to take the saw back to Screwfix for a replacement or they could offer me
£100 worth of accessories. So, I said that, since the damage seemed merely cosmetic I would be content to keep it.
At that point, I hadn't even used the saw and, it was only today, a week after I picked it up that I tried to cut the 25mm MDF and the blade wouldn't go past 25mm but of course, I'd need a cut of at least 33mm to take into account rail + board + 2mm, wouldn't I ?
Anyway, I imagine I'll need to send Festool another email and maybe end up getting a replacement.

Make sure your splinter guard is retracted.  You'll have to power the saw up and cut into it before you'll be able to manually spring the blade all the way down.

Thanks tsmi
I had actually made several cuts in the last few days, all around 18mm so I hadn't encountered this problem until today, when I tried to cut the 25mm mdf.

Your best course of action is to return it to Screwfix for replacement or refund under the satisfaction policy.

They sold you a used or demoed saw.

I had my TS55 being kind of 'stuck' in similar fashion after extended transport, but that went away after going through the fast-fix cycle twice.
So maybe try that, prior to returning it.

Thanks for your reply Gregor.
Just tried that, to no avail. The FastFix works fine and allows the blade to plunge to 25mm and puts the brake on, the way it's supposed to.
I tried it several times, but still can't plunge deeper than 25mm !
