I am in a  :-\ quandary :-\ as to what to do with the recall of my TS 55 REQ.  That being, repair it or get the larger TS 75.

I am using it in a home shop environment.  Any advice or testimonials would be appreciated.

Is there any thing that the new TS 55 REQ has that the TS 75 doesn't have??

Thanks,
Jim

Heya Jim,

Here's another thread that I wrote a bit on regarding a similar dilemma between the TS55REQ, TS55EQ and TS75EQ -- if you wanted to take a peek over there

In short though...

Granted the TS55REQ is 'newer', let's not forget that the TS55EQ was the centerpiece of Festool for years and years prior.  Truthfully, the only real absolute NEW feature of the TS55REQ (that the 55/75EQ could not do) is the ability to do beveled cuts with outside splinterguard attached.  All other aspects are "improvements" on previous features.

A supplemental / trivial note would be that I've noted quite a few reviews now on the FOG of 55REQ'ers who've swapped for the 75, and are truly surprised/delighted.  Previous primary concerns were always regarding the 75's bulkiness and weight -- addressed by the simple after-use realization that while in operation, that the weight of the saw simply rides on the rail.  Only time when weight/bulkiness becomes hindering would be during transport.  Added cut depth and shear power of the 75 is greatly welcomed.

Hope this helps!

K119Phil,

Yes that does shed some light on the subject.

It would appear it is a good time to "upgrade" at no additional cost.

Thanks for the input.

It's been mentioned in another thread that the swap doesn't include the 75" guide rail that's normally included with the TS75. If your breaking down a sheet of plywood and you need to crosscut with the TS75 using the 55" rail, you won't have enough room to start the cut without plunging into your workpiece.  If that's a concern you need to factor in another $185 for a 75" rail.

Yes good point, plus if you had a long 2700 rail now you have to get an even longer one because the TS75 doesn't fit. Also the added bulk is not just for carrying, most times I place a rail on top of a piece that is much smaller than the rail. If the saw was heavier this would tip the rail when starting the cut. Overall I'm stuck and don't know what to do. The funny part is that I've never experienced problems with the saw, and I was notified about this recall via e-mail 1 or 2 months after the others judging by the thread history here. Good thing my saw doesn't appear defective or I would be missing fingers by the time I got my e-mail.

EDIT: Festool trying to swipe this under the rug by locking all threads on that topic is not helping.

I dont get this either. They know theres a problem hence the recall but dont talk about it? But i will post this again just to create an awareness - sometimes the saw doesnt return after plunging- which is very dangerous. I didnt think my saw had a problem either till the other day when I sat it down after a cut and didnt relize it had not retracted. I did a cut then sat the saw down -unfortunately on my customers carpet -with the blade still exposed and spinning and left a 6 inch gash in their carpet. Scared the crap out of me!! Im luck it was only the carpet I have to pay to have repaired and not fingers, hand, or some other body part.

cutting in customers home with out drops or blankets and resting saw on bare carpeting after cut seems alittle careless.

It totally seems careless- but have you ever used a saw that would cut carpet but would not cut a drop cloth or blanket? Yes there was a drop cloth down and it went through that too just to let you know.

i guess you have valid point...after sending my t55 back I got my t75 today..I'm anxious to use it ... Now you experienced t55 problem , what option that festool offers are you going to take?

Im just going for a full refund for now. I will wait till I absolutely need a track saw to pick up another one( Ive got this far with out one- prob 15years)- if problem solved by then I will go with another ts55 if not I will just pick up a ts75.

Matt,

I understand your frustrations and I personally assisted you earlier today with your saw, hopefully to your satisfaction. You should have received your call tag. If not, please feel free to follow up with me.

As mentioned in another thread, there are procedures and requirements set forth by the CPSC. Nothing is being swept under the rug.

If any of our customers have any questions about the TS 55 REQ, please stop using it immediately and contact us toll free at 1-855-784-9727 (8 AM – 5 PM EST).

Speculation about the cause of the problem, members attempting to post ways to fix their own saws, etc. are some of the reason threads are being locked and will continue to be locked.

Again, I offer my personal and prompt assistance to anyone who needs help with the REQ. This thread will now be locked.

Shane
