TS and other brands

Absolutely, the Hilti is an excellent all rounder and, if their other tools are anything to go by, will be very hard wearing. As good as the rail saws are I wouldn't want to take mine up a scaffold and start cutting a stack of birdsmouths for instance or cut the ends off rafters.

However as I already have a normal circular saw for this use I went for the Makita, if I didn't I'd be struggling to find a case for not taking the Hilti

The Mafell Kss400 I think would be cool for cutting rafters and the like, pricey piece of kit it is though.

The bosch is the same as the Mafel Plunge saw but has had a few features removed to lower the cost.    The narrow ridge you talk about is what Mafel have on their rails and bosch has teamed up with Mafel and like Mafel are able to work on Festool Rails.

Do you mean "same" as in overall design?
Are the Bosch saws using the Mafelle motors and parts or just the rail design?
I've never seen either so I have no idea.

Hi Tim

Jmb is over generalising...
the bosch saw is a result of a calabaration between bosch and mafell and borrows SOME of its features from the class leading mafell mt55cc

both saws can be used on festool and other brands of tracks as well as the mafell track system

hope that helps

Yes, somewhat. Thanks for the clarification. I do hope Mafell influences Bosch in design at least rather than the other way around. While I am sure co-operation is good for both companies (best in class operating procedures, marketing and distribution etc.) it would be a shame if Mafell was just another Bosch in name. I like and appreciate Bosch but for different reasons than I think about Mafell.
