Good Morning,

This is my first post here even though I've been lurking for awhile. I recently got the TS55 & MFT 1080 and was setting everything up last night and was checking the saw to make sure it is cutting at 90 degrees and 45 degrees. All went well until I wanted to check the 45's, using Rick Christopherson's method. When ripping, how do you clamp a piece of wood that doesn't extend past the left side of the saw guide? Without having it clamped, I started to rip a piece about 20" long and 5" wide at a 45, and the piece moved on me. What am I missing here?  Thanks for any help. Greg

Hi,

You need to put a like thickness piece to the left of the piece you are ripping u order to support the guide rail. If you clamp the rail down to this (and to the table if possible) it will sometimes create enough pressure to also hold the piece you are ripping.  If not then you also need something at the far end of the piece you are ripping to keep it from pushing away. A stop to push against.  Some of the set up for this will depend on weather or not the piece you are ripping is longer than the MFT.     Go to this thread for more as well as some pics of what generally do.  I also have another hard board fixture with an  L shape cut out at one  end. That one provides a "stop" to push against. I will try to take some pics of that later.
