Ok, I have some Festool stuff but also some dare I say off brands.  I have a Makita track saw that works great even with my Festool accys. I have recently used it on thicker say 1" stock and noticed that more dust escapes from the front of the saw on the thicker stock.

Dust collection is a concern and I am thinking of getting a Festool saw but don't want the same deal as otherwise the Makita works flawless and I love the anti tip feature. It comes in more handy then I ever thought.

Anybody have real world experience comparison?

Thanks

Is the dust you are describing escaping at the end of the cut?  If so, it happens on the TS55 as well.  I think what you are noticing is that the amount of dust from thicker sheet goods is greater than from cutting thinner stock since the blade is removing more stock and therefore creating more dust whic can escape at the end of the cut..

What Jon said...

If you think about the blade's teeth, when they hit the open air at the end of a cut, they are going to throw more sawdust. With a deeper cut, they are going to throw more sawdust than in a shallower cut.

It's theoretically possible to plunge the blade deeper and get more of the sawdust to go into the blade guard and then into the dust extraction but I think that practically, it's counterproductive.
