TS55 vs TS60?

In Europe the TS 75 is 200 bucks more expensive than the TS 60

I wonder why that is the case. I can definitely see price differences between countries, but you would think that proportionately, they would be the same.

The first I heard about this kind of thing was the FS rails. Here in the US, the LR32 version and plain version were the same price, but that was not the case in Europe.
Apparently, that has changed here too? I checked it just now and it seems the LR32 is $10 more. $155 and $165 respectively

The TS 75 is worldwide-cheapest in US, so it is not like it is "expensive" in Europe. It is a very good value in US specifically.

I presume there are more FS75 sales in US than in Europe. Frankly I would assume in Europe the ration is like 20 TS55/60 to 1 TS75. From what I read on the forum, it will be more in US. I can easily imagine FUSA was just told in 2021: "you either make a big order, or it is out of production". And so they did .. and now need to sell it."

Either way, manufacturing cost is less than 1/2 of the costs. Rest is support/stocking/transport/certification/etc. which gives a lot of leeway for different prices between markets. And that is before the competition pricing comes to the fore.

On the holy rail thing, what bothered me always is why the #&$@ the holy rails are not the ones shipping in all the FS kits .. That is as big a marketing fail as it gets.

Probably more thick wood used in the US too. And no HK 85 available in 110V.

That brings me on one more thing; the TS60 is FSK-rail compatible. The TS 55 isn't.

Yup, that annoyed me too. I would have had one less rail if I could get a holey 1400 with my TS55

Or... you guys pay the LR-32 price for the un-holed one too  [tongue]

There was a shortage for quite a while, that suddenly everyone had them, so there might be something to that.

Personally, I never understood the point of a plain FS1400? Why bother with two versions, along with two item numbers, and the associated handling.
I get the point of the new one (with the sticky-pad holes) because the holes would conflict, but that means there are 3 variations of the FS1400. Why? it doesn't hurt a thing to have those LR32 holes and never use them.
I got the holey rail with the saw, on the advice of my dealer, and it was well over a year before I bought the rest of the system.

As far as I know Festool makes machines in batches. So not every machine is continually in production. If a machine sells more than expected or there are other delays in the process, you might end up with a certain model being completely sold out everywhere for some time. Then when the new batch is made, suddenly every dealer is flush with stock again. Dealers could (and definitely did, I have no knowledge about current state) gamble on this by buying more. Having the last stock in the country make you able to ask a premium...

As for Festool (Germany) pressuring Festool USA into ordering more TS 75's... well, it isn't completely unlike aircraft manufacturers pressuring airlines (or governments, in case of military aircraft) to order more of a certain type or have the type go out of production and pay up the gargantuan start-up fee if they want the same type in the future. Airbus did this with the A380, telling it's userbase to either order more or have the type go out of production. The first didn't happen, so the latter was done in 2021.

The extra cost of the SKU might be less than we assume. For dealers however, it's a pain because if you have a whole stack of 1400 rails... the LR-32 rail' box doesn't stand out..

HK 85 EB + FSK 670  [thumbs up]
Cutting notches 75 deep in 150x150 douglas wood, four at a time. Unfortunately no dust extractor present that time. But the dust wasn't the nasty kind.

Made a very nice, very low-cost 3x10 meter patio, using 150x150 [mm] poles, 75x200 on three sides, roof beams 50x150. Fourth side attached to home outer brick wall.

I'd have been more jealous if you had used the grooving cutter for that, [member=8955]Coen[/member] . ;)

My bank account vetoed that... it's like 50% more than I paid for the 2nd hand HK-85 itself...

I already had a fine blade for the HK-85 two years before I had the saw when Toolstation had it in clearance.
