TS75 and TS55 Cmt Fiber Cement Blade

I was just on toolnut.com and they offer a cmt fiber cement blade for the ts55 and the ts75, but at the bottom it says that it voids Festools Warranty.  Why does it void the warranty?  Also what are the cut results and dust collection with the fiber cement blade?  I have a freud cement blade on my circular saw and it works great just messy.

I think its because the Festool TS55 & TS75 are not capable of keeping out the fine dust from the bearings, the seals are not up to it.

The blade works great. Tom has been selling them since I requested one a few years ago. I believe he was the first to offer them. As dust free as cutting wood. They work well on fiber cement and plaster.

Festool sells fiber cement blades in the rest of the world for the TS. The saw is well sealed and the dust extraction is excellent, the bearings never see the dust.

I was under the impression that the dust from building materials was more abrasive and that is why Festool would not honor warranty on goods that have been used for such purposes that were not designed for that task. Was the building material circular saw, the AXT 50 LA-Plus 561442, available in NA? I understood that this saw was built to withstand the harsher dust from cutting cement based boards, though they have now discontinued it over here.

"Plunge-cut saws are intended to be used for sawing wood, materials similar to wood, plaster and ce- ment-bonded fibre materials and plastics. When fitted with special saw blades for aluminium of- fered by Festool, these machines can also be used for sawing aluminium.
Only saw blades with the following specifications may be used: Saw blade diameter 160 mm, cutting width 2,2 mm, location hole 20 mm, max. standard blade thickness 1,8 mm, suitable for speeds up to"

The blade should have no affect on the warranty, and the blade has no affect on the saw. Before I got the CMT blade I used the 48 tooth blade that came with the saw. It only lasted about 50' of cut but it worked.

As far as I know that AT 50 LA Plus was never offered in North America. Then again, I've been wrong before.

Here in Australia, Festool sells the fibre cement blade and it works really well. Dust extraction is excellent too, but I always use disposable bags so there is no chance of breathing the dust.
I use it with the TS55 and a ct.

I am curious to hear an official word on the warranty issues regarding cutting cementatious materials. Aren't the saws rated for"solid surfaces"?
Can someone from festool chime in on this.
Using the dust extraction capabilities of the ts saws for fiber cement dust seems to make a lot of sense. If it ruins a 1000.00$ saw though....that's a bit tough.

I agree with you.  I dont want to destroy my saw.  I have used a freud hardie blade on my cs20 bosch circular saw and  my bosch  4100 table saw for years and never had an issue.  And both of those saw together cost less than my ts75 lol.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT:  Whether or not the saw can handle cutting the material and excel or merely survive may or may not be the only reason that a manufacturer does or doesn't support a particular usage. For instance perhaps product liability or insurance requirements may come into play.  And they can vary from company to company, carrier to carrier, location to location.

Have you ever read the warning labels on tubes of latex caulk regarding silica exposure?

On page 9 of the linked manual there is the slica warning.

Again, the U.S. owners manual states on page 10 that fiber cement is one of the products that the saw was designed to cut.

As stated we do not offer the fiber cement blade in the North America.  Our warranty has a list of actions that could void the warranty.  Bullet number 9 should be referenced for this thread because of the mention of non Festool blade. " 09. Damage resulting from the use of any non-FESTOOL accessories or attachments"
