Hi all,
There are numerous threads here about the TSC55 and generally, most feel that it is more powerful than the corded TS55.
I am curious to see what the consensus is on the power of the TSC55 compared to Makita's 36v track saw? I'm not so much interested in cost comparisons, as there's really only ~$200 or so difference between the two brands in Australia. I also appreciate there are certain features, fit and finish, etc that also need to be taken into account, so let's just discuss power!
There was a post online (2017) with a video running both the Festool and Makita with the same Freud blade and it looked like the Festool really struggled in Douglas Fir: Link:https://www.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1714186595555051&id=1579431219030590
The use of thinner kerf blades, as well as selecting the right number of teeth for the work at hand is going to play an important role. On that basis, is the Makita getting ahead based on the blade, or is it genuinely more powerful than the TSC55?
Currently, I'm taking a very unscientific approach to testing out the TSC55 (within 30 day risk free period that Festool offers) against my corded HK55 and I feel like the HK55 at 1200w/240v is the more powerful between the two.
Using the 18 tooth HK blade (Yes, I know about the riving knife! [tongue]) and the 48 tooth TSC blade on both saws on 22mm red tongue particleboard flooring sheets which are full of glue, to me at least it feels like I can push the corded HK55 through relatively quickly without any issues. The TSC55 seems to make a bit of a whiney noise when I push it too hard - I felt more resistance, but the noise could also be the controller trying to maintain torque.
For those that have used both, what are your thoughts? Could the sweeter combination be the Makita 36v track saw with Festool rails?
Cheers,
