Hello gents,

I thought i would share some pics of my last job. They are both very simple looking projects but I'm sure as you know making something clean is often harder then it looks. For the maple chest of drawers i hade the grain on the drawers all line up to stay with the clean look. i also fit all the narrow drawers with pool table felt.

For the TV unit I ended up using blums pocket door system so the client can have the doors out of the way when using it, and then be able to hide everything when not in use. For the four drawers I used blums blumotion tandem full extension softclose runners. I ended up having to go back the day after delivery because the audio guys that installed all the systems chipped some of the corners of the unit.

Feel free to asked any questions.

Wayne

Wayne,

Wow! Awesome work. Haven't seen you post in a while, I see you've been busy!

Love the grain on the drawerfronts on the jewellery chest. I take it that's veneered board? Nice touch on the baize too - blue wouldn't be a colour I'd have thought of using, but it goes well & provides a nice contrast.

AV unit is great too! Shame the system installers have used a crappy bit of conduit rather than bury the cables in the wall. [sad]

Surprised we haven't seen any 'pre-build' renders though...  [poke] [thumbs up]

Hi Jonathan,

Thanks for the comments, The drawers fronts are indeed veneered chipboard with 0.5mm edging. The rest of the unit though has 5mm solid strips on the long grain edge and the top has a 22mm solid all round. The feet are also solid maple. The blue felt actually wasnt the choice of the client either, she wanted green, but i managed to change her mind. For me green felt goes well with dark furniture and i also noticed she had alot of blue in the room.

The installers didnt have anything to do with the conduit for the TV, that was there long before i built the unit. There was a old tv unit that was really showing its age and honestly was not built very well. All the the decoders and amps where also on the outside of the unit on a cheap glass shelving unit and it didnt look to good.

As for pre-build renders.......here you go [big grin]

I like both pieces.

Just curious if you explored doing the jewelry chest without the metal side drawer glides.  It's such a clean piece when it's closed up and the glides distract from that when you open the drawer.  Perhaps under mount or just wooden runners?

On the renders, what program did you use?  They really look great.

Thanks for sharing.

Hi Neil,

The side mounted runners where the only option for my needs, There would have been no space under the drawer to mount them as the drawer front is only a few mm taller then the actual drawer box. And to be honest i hate the idea of wooden runners on furniture. They dont allow for full extension on the drawers and its a pain to come up with a way to not have them pull right out of the chest. They also often get stuck over time with movement.

The program I use for the renderings is 3ds max. You can search for some other rendering i have done. I also had a hand in rendering the FOGtainers when they where first thought up.

Cheers

Nice work. I preferred the handles on your rendering of the TV unit.

I was going to go with those handle when i did the rendering but can you see why they would not have worked?? When the pocket doors closest to the drawers  are pushed in the handle would have stuck out over the side of the draw front. Meaning you would not be able to open the drawers with the pocket door slide in.

Real nice job! Clean and organized.  Where did you purchase the hardware? Thanks for posting.

Hi,

All the hardware i got from a store called eclipse, they are resellers of blum produces and a few other brands aswell.

Good point ... much better to eliminate that issue in the virtual arena - considerably cheaper! [wink]

Love the work on the jewelry chest!  Thanks for sharing the your thoughts on the slides.  That also caught my eye on first glance...I'll have to consider that for something I'm designing.  Hope I can get my drawers looking half as good as this!
