I have been using interface pads on my RO 90 with much success on contoured wood edge surfaces and started looking for one for my 150 sander.  I came up with two different part numbers.  496647 and 499257.  It appears the first one is a pad about 15 mm thick and the later is much thinner at 5 mm and comes in a two-pack.

My question is what is the purpose of each?  The 499257 is a more recent part number and I wondered if it was developed at the request of the automotive industry.

They both can be used on the RO 150.

The  499257 works with the ETS 150 and RO 150 sanders. This appears to be a newer version with the multi-stream and mount for the ETS 150.

Sometimes you may want to sand heavily curved, or undulated surfaces, use the 15mm interface pad (or multiple pads stacked).  If you just want to preserve something like a small round over on a counter you can use the thin pad.  That way you can sand the flat and the corner without adding/removing extra pads.
