I am looking at getting a new drill for me and the wife. We are both only weekend woodworkers and still learning so I am quite unsure which drill will be suited for our needs.

I currently have a Bosch drill & impact with 4.5Ahr non Lion batts and it is too heavy for my wife to comfortably use. Fantastic battery life but now that its 7 years old new batts will cost me over $200.

Anyways, will the TXS be able to drill pocket holes and drive screws for an entire weekends project without needing to be charged? For example a desk with pocket 150 holes.

The screwing takes virtually no battery at all. The drilling does drain the battery however. Whether it would last depends on what materials you're drilling and how sharp/dull the bit is, remember the current version does have 2 x 2.6ah batteries. However pocket holes should really be drilled at a higher speed than the T/CXS is capable of, so whilst I'm not saying it won't do it, it might not be the ideal tool choice for drilling so many holes, since you have the opportunity to pick something else.

I have considered getting a cheap corded drill dedicated to pocket holing. What is the RPM of the TXS?

It's only 1200rpm at idle, plus the motor doesn't have a lot of torque and those pocket hole drills aren't small, so actual RPM will probably be less than 1000.

This is what I do - a 15 yr old Dewalt for pocket hole drilling - the CXS for driving screws most of the time. Wouldn't mind getting a Foreman though  [big grin]

Nice little setup, pretty much exactly what I was thinking. The TXS is very comfortable to use as a 6ft man and very well sized for my 5ft wife. The T18 definitely is a full duty drill but the wife has trouble holding it straight above elbow height.

I also use a corded drill to drill the pocket holes and then a TXS cordless drill to drive the screws.  The corded drill works best for me because it triggers the CT dust extractor.

For what it's worth, I use a T18 for drilling and a TSX for driving. It is a great combination.

I picked up the TXS and have already used it to install some under counter pullouts and some access doors in the basement. So light it feels like a cordless screwdriver except 20x better.

I will use my existing drill until I pick up a cheap used cordless for drilling tasks. Doesn't matter if its corded as my pocket hole station is in one spot.

I've been using my CXS for pocket hole driving for the last two days, works beautifully for that. I'm using my Ryobi cordless drill driver for drilling the hole.

Good point about triggering the Vac on... [thumbs up]

I don' t have a txs but I have the sibling cxs . I works fine in pocket screws. I should say it is my wife's favorite tool ever!!

It is safer to have the Haus-Boss pick the drill if she is using it.
It gives me great joy to see the Mrs using a drill. Usually take up a sage coaching posture with a beer in the paw.

I did a kitchen a couple weeks ago. I have a foreman but I tried the jig and only a cxs. Works fine... No you aren't drilling and driving 150 without recharging. If I had that need definitely, I'd use my PDC 18/4. My Cxs is my favorite drill though.

Used my CXS today to drill the hole and then drive the screws and it was fine. Probably not the best option but it worked fine. I only used it as I couldn't be bothered to go upstairs and grab my 18v drill.

I use my CXS 2.6ah for drilling and screwing pocket holes all the time. No problems so far. Biggest task undertaken to date was roof trusses and noggins on a large shed roof.
