Ultimate Dust Deputy - Video

Thanks for the video.

I could only wish the same comparison video was available for Ridgid 6 HP shop vac vs Festool. As well as Oneida Dust Cobra vs Festool.

I am trying to figure out the suction strength difference between the three machines. I have Ridgid and want to upgrade to either Festool with the cyclone or the Oneida Dust Cobra.

Peter, have you ever worked with Dust Cobra by any chance?

No, I have not even seen a Dust Cobra. It would take quite a lot to beat my CT26. I glanced at the Oneida web site but could not interpret the imperial units used to define the extractor (70" W/C means nothing to me; is it inches of mercury or water?) - maybe someone can tell me the performance of the Dust Cobra in metric units. Then it will be easy to see how it compares to the CT26.

As this is a US product someone also needs to compare the price of the options in $.

Festool is not clear about their 96" water column spec either as they can not tell what diameter column was utilized.
The price for Oneida unit is about $1,200 while CT-26 retails for $650 in US.

Really hard to tell if 2-stage Oneida Cobra shop vac is twice better in terms of performance vs Ct-26 unit.
While Festool is available in showrooms close by I can not find the Cobra anywhere.

I think I'll get a festool, connect it to stationary cyclone (like a blue barrel by Ed Bray here) and see how it performs.

Unless someone with Cobra experience can make me change my mind.

Now I understand the "W/C" - it means water column.

The Oneida Dust Cobra is quoted at 70" W/C. This is equivalent to just under 17,500 Pascal. The CT26 is rated at 24,000 Pascal and this figure is clearly available on the Festool web site.

It looks like the CT26 wins on vacuum.

The Oneida is quoted at 245 Cu Ft per min which is about 6940 litres per minute. The CT26 is quoted at 3700 litres per minute.

The Oneida wins on air flow.

Now all we need is an expert who can tell us which is better !!!!!

Peter,

Nice video and a very creative flow test system.  I have the UDD on my CT22 in my shop and I have only replaced one bag since and it was not even half full but, I did a lot of very fine dust collection and I thought that the bag might be suffering a bit of clogging.  For every day use with my Kapex, Domino Joiner, Leight Dovetail jig with the VRS dust collector and my sanders and floor sweeping the UDD/CT22 is a great system.  I only have to empty the bad in the UDD every few weeks unless I pushing production and at my age (70) that doesn't happen too often.
