Hope you guys like this?
Client wanted large oak shelves either side of fireplace, nothing fancy just to provide a space for logs etc, didn't want any nude support but wanted to place large items on said shelves.
Solution was to take firewood logs and plane two flat edges and bond together and bond to floor and shelf.
When all logs are in you can't tell that middle ones are actually fixed and providing support.
As long as the clients happy..I'm happy.

How did you fix them to the ceiling?  [big grin] Your photo posting skills are as good as mine  [smile]

John..

nice idea.

i can see some head scratching  when they go to use it and start pulling out of the fixed ones

Clever.... I like it...trying to think of other applications and objects that this idea could lead to.....cereal box to support deep pantry shelving???  Never mind, it must be getting late.

Great idea  ;D  [thumbs up]

I know I would have struggled not to plane the end grain of the support logs and make them look tidier though, I get some weird urges at times  ;D

Rob.

Fantastic.

If you pull them hard enough the fireplace revolves showing a bat cave/Irn Bru cellar/secret NSA listening station or something? Right?

Waffles, excellent question, and idea for next remodeling project.  I had to Google Irn Bru, being unfamiliar with it, although our family did some serious vacationing in Scotland a few years back.

I got a good laugh at the "controversy" section on Irn Bru's Wikipedia page, describing some past advertising.

Really cool idea, bet it looks fantastic when all filled up.
Leer, go on youtube & watch the Iron Bru adverts, really funny.

SM, where are you based ?
