Upcoming CXS / TXS 18

I am surprised that they didn’t use the 18v etsc Batteries to update the txs/cxs…seemed like a perfect fit.

I think they are trying to have as many tools on the "regular" batteries as possible.

I understand….it was certainly a niche drill series. Still my favorite by far. I hope a cordless router is in the cards that it my holy grail for the shop.

[member=70487]HillsidePRD[/member] it's extremely hard to beat the Makita compact routers for cordless. They share the same form-factor with the corded version, which means there are several bases for it other than the common "fixed" base. This includes a plunge base and a tilt base. They also have sub-bases that fit Porter-Cable bushings.
If you are already in the Makita battery platform, it's a no-brainer, they are that good.

How's the dust collection on those?  Plunge base, specifically

I had the corded Makita and didn’t really like it all that much. Have a Milwaukee for site work that’s okay. I really like the 2hp metabo for a little bigger site cordless but I have found that nothing comes close to Festool’s 18v line. Router is the missing piece for me.

Notice the recip saw in the background.
I have enough drills already, so the new CXS/TXS probably won't be on my list till something dies, but that recip saw is a different matter. I've put off buying one for ages because I wanted to stick to a single 18v battery line (yeah, I know, choosing Festool for that isn't the most sensible but that's where I am).

Hopefully even Festool can't come up with a load of expensive accessories for a recip saw, so there will be no reason to lust after anything other than the bare/basic version.

They honestly need to photograph them next to the current TXS, CXS, T-18, and C-18.  Otherwise, those pictures are only marginally useful, as everyone's hand sizes can be quite varied.

I don’t see the point of manufacturing so many different types of chucks. The 90 degree chuck looks different, and is the small Jacobs really much lighter and compact than the regular one?

Is the 3.0 battery new or just rebranded 3.1? It doesn’t have the Bluetooth logo on it. I guess they are trying to push this kit at a low price point and cut off some features.

In terms of the battery, few, purely speculative options come to my mind. We don't know when these pictures were taken/ photoshopped. So everything is possible from a price sensitive 3.0Ah battery pack without bluetooth that would make sense, definitely. To planned but never released/ project never materialized. Or the same reason - we still don't now for sure - for the switch from 5.2 to 5.0 Ah.

If you noticed, the Systainer on the "leaked" pictures read "... 3.0Ah Set" The new pictures don't show the product ID tag.

Kind regards,
Oliver

There's already a smaller Jacobs chuck that comes with the current CXS/TXS Sets.

Also, the rare times I've used my drill with an extractor, I've preferred to use the bluetooth button on the hose to start and stop the vac, as I'm usually batching out holes and don't need the extractor cycling that frequently, so I rarely if ever pair my BT battery to my extractor if I have it installed in a drill.

40Nm is about 354 in-lbs....

This thing must be REAL comfortable.

**edit-  Well, maybe it IS a lot smaller than it looks.  Unless this guy just has gigantic hands...

IDK.  I guess I'll have to see one in person.

Definitely need to see a live video or see it in person.  The pictures make it look like the CXS-18 is actually larger than the C18, it just has a better trigger setup than the C18.  The TXS-18 looks almost the same size as the TID18, which isn't really a compliment.  The head looks a little shorter in overall length than the TXS-12, at least, but again...

It also looks like they have the fancy electronic clutches from the C-18 and T-18, but without the driver/drill selector, which makes them just as borderline annoying as the CXS/TXS if you're swapping back and forth between drilling and driving.  The selector switch is one place where the T-18 shines, IMHO.

It would have made more sense to just call these the new C18/T18. Bump the torque and reduce the size/weight, which should be totally possible considering how old the t18/c18 are. Even 12V Milwaukee drills have more power.

Looks like all it's going to do is make me buy another of the current model before they are gone.
The only real question is another CXS, or get a TXS and have both?

So, I tried both- The CXS trigger was the best I've used by far, but the forward weight balance did something to trigger a nerve in my forearm.  I've been using 12v Bosch for years, so I guess my arm is just set in it's ways.

Switched to the TXS, and it's perfect balance, but the trigger isn't as good somehow.  It's just OK.

So I returned both of em.  I still just use Bosch.
