..::UPDATED::..New Festool C15, C12 and CARVEX

The shots of the corded versions weren't up when I posted my comment.  So I am assuming they both use the same base and that the dust extractor attaches like the OF 1400 router dust extractor.  If that's the case, then okay, it makes sense.

But now the $64,000 question - Can you see where you are cutting easily?

The new plastic shield has a vertical slot in front of the blade.
That should provide adequate visibility and improve dust collection.

With the new base design it isn't clear how the base can be angled
for bevel cuts. Anyone know?

I doubt anyone knows, at least outside Festool for the time being. That doesn't stop us from guessing though!

It looks to me like one of two options, but involving the black slider circled here:

I think that will either release a clamp, allowing the base to swivel (although the casting under it looks very square, but it could swivel to the other side only), or option 2 it will release the base completely, and there will be interchangeable bases. One fixed (pictured, guaranteed to cut square) and one adjustable. Maybe even other options I can't think of right now...

I'm hoping the new Li-Ion batteries are all compatible. Check it out the Carvex batteries are labeled "BPS 15 Li" like the T15's. Although they are clearly slimmer, maybe just a smaller amp hour battery. Note the C12/C15 don't seem to have the "Li" at the end of the their labels like the Carvex and T+3 series batteries. Since we can't see the battery label behind the belt clip I guess we won't know until more pictures surface.

I think they'll all be compatible. The batteries of the Carvex don't seem smaller to me, they seem to be exactly the same as of the T15. This would only make sense.

The C12/C15 batteries don't have "Li" at the end but right above it it say Li-Ion in big letters, so why wouldn't they be compatible?

I think you are right that they will be part of a system and all be compatible. The only thing that sticks out is the different label. The T15 batteries also have the big Li-Ions lettering and the small print at the bottom: BPS 15 Li that the C versions don't seem to have. Could be nothing or a picture of a prototype with different battery. Of course it could be a new version of the BPS 15 with the belt clip. Maybe you're right about the batteries being the same size too, it's hard to tell.

I can afford to save a dollar a day, that ought to coincide with it's release here!! [big grin]

Better make it a buck fifty and I'm not saying I expect it to come early to the US. ;D

Pretty.  But I have a dumb question.  If I am in a place where I would need a cordless jigsaw, how am I going to power my dust extractor?  [scared]

That is funny but folks were asking the converging question about the DeWalt cordless HEPA vac [big grin]

Now if they would just make a cordless trim gun and vac i would drop my new found DeWalt cordless fixation.

Craig

PS it looks as if the dust extraction on these are better than on the trion  The added utility  of a SMALLER saw is often at the expense of features.  like bevel cut (it works for me.  trying to think of a way to make a collins foot for it....Grinning)

option 2 it will release the base completely

That's what I meant by Fast-Fix base. I suspect it comes with different bases for different tasks.

wow! these jigsaws look great. i can see me buying both versions. cordless and electric.
i see some people posting about the cordless jigsaw and what purpose it has.
i often need to use cordless tools in public areas where running electric extension leads/cords is not an option. such as petrol stations and shops.
i dont want anyone tripping over my leads, and then suing me, so the best and only option is to have a full range of cordless tools.
i personally dont worry about dust collection on a jigsaw as i have this wonderful invention called a dustpan and brush. it really works great and only takes a minute to clean up after i have made a mess.

regards, justin.

Cutting over a garbage can works pretty well with a jig saw too since the sawdust isn't flying off of a spinning blade and the edges of the garbage can make good saw horses sometimes too.

Can you say different blade positions, different bases, FLUSH CUTS......

If that c15 has a light I'm having it !

Supposedly has much more than a light.  I've heard "strobe" led that essentially slows down the blade SIGNIFICANTLY when viewed by the human eye which should aid in precision of cuts.

I've been doing woodworking for 27 + years.  I would love to have someone explain to me the benefits of have a strobe light on a portable drill.  Now if this was really about  the jigsaws, that might be another situation.

Peter, note I said "blade."  I'm burning the candles on both ends and I'm on my fourth cup o' joe for the night.  My mistake, meant the jig

Peter, I think Sean was referring to the Carvex. I was reading the description in the of the jigsaws with the Google translator so when I saw something about a strobe light I disregarded as a poor translation. Flush cuts would be fun. I guess Festool got tired of playing with Bosch for the best jigsaw. Well, hopefully next year at this time we'll get getting ready to get these puppies over here in the States.

If that C15 LiIon has a light, and comes in a kit with only the drill and charger (no extra chucks), I'm jumping on it.  My C12 still works great, but the batteries are starting to wear out after 3 years.    While I can buy two new batteries for $130, I'm inclined to sell my current drill and buy the C15.

I think I could get maybe $150-200 for the drill and charger.  Assuming that the new C15 is priced the same as the T15, then the net cost would be $250-$300.    Subtracting the cost of replacing my batteries for my current drill, leaves a net net of $120-$170.  Assuming that LiIon batteries are lighter and charge faster (reasonable assumption), and that the drill has a light, those features alone are worth $120-$170 to me.

Message to Festool - I will NOT buy the full boat kit with all the chucks.  (I already have all the chucks!)  I WILL buy a 2-chuck C15 kit.

Regards,

Dan.
