..::UPDATED::..New Festool C15, C12 and CARVEX

I tried the new dril the other day at a store in KC, the Festool rep said I needed to try it out.  He wanted me to drill as hard and fast as I could a screw into wood. The drill sunk the screw head in about 1/16", then auto stopped.  It was sweet.  Tood bad I have two other Festool drills that work great, or I would have been sold.

I don't think this has been posted about the C12/C15: http://blogs.popularwoodworking.com/editorsblog/Festool+Improves+Its+C12+Drilldriver.aspx .  It's a blog posting about the new C12 and C15, including specs (like RPM, weight, and torque).  It says that the drill will (may?) hit the shelves in late Fall, 2010.

It looks like the C12/C15 and Carvex use the same batteries.  I hope that Festool creates a C15/Carvex combo package with one charger and two batteries at a decent price point.  I think those would fly off the shelves.

Regards,

Dan.

Do we know if the Carvex will be available in NA in a corded model as well as the battery version? I asked about the Carvex at my class in Lebenon last week but they were really tight lipped.

Dan - that is a great idea as the multi tool packages sell so well in the box stores. Would be very useful for field work.

tool packages do sell great at the box stores but keep in mind that if you buy, makita, dewalt, bosch, ridgid etc.... you will pay around 500 for a 4-5 piece tool set, we are talking about a FESTOOL here, i don't think that a 2 piece tool set is going to be flying off any shelves as it's probably going to be priced at around 1200$.
We can all dream big tough

Yes I agree it won't compete price wise but for my needs--- we use the drills and jigsaws a lot. A combo kit in a single systainer would be useful. Too bad the 4 or 5 sets I would purchase aren't going to be enough for Festool to create such a package.

well at least the upside on purchasing the items individually is that you get a set of batteries with each item and a charger, that way you can purchase a bigger systainer keep one charger and sell the other two systainers and one charger on eaby, that should put a few bucks back in your wallet and give you 4 batteries per kit.  which in my opinion is a way better bargain.

Thats what I have done with the Milwuakee M18 cordless  I bought everything seperate so I have 8 milwuakee batteries which is great so when I got my Jigsaw, Circular saw and Impact drill and Driver on site I can almost do with out a charger for the day depending on what im cutting with the circular saw though cus thats does suck batterie!

Ill soon have 10 i think going to get the cordless grinder!

I Have kept my chargers but 2 of them I aint touched still in the bag I think when you have more than 6 batteries you need atleast 2 chargers on the go. I might use 3 chargers when I have 10 batteries!

Wish Milwueakee hurry up and make a cordless M18 SDS  and bring their new radio out in the UK been waiting for ages for that!

At the moment I aint got a my milwueakee Impact drill nor have I got my Festool T15 drill both went in for repair last week how unlucky is that!  At the moment Milwuakee is winning with service! Its my second Milwuakee Impact drill went faulty I have had it for more than a year and both times Milwuakee have replaced it with a brand new one the next day!

I have had 2 festool drills fixed and now this is the 3rd and  they have always taken a week or more for a repair and even then they mess that up!

I have alot of festool tools but what I am trying to say festool cordless tools dont seem to be able to handle site work but also their service is to slow for site work I cant be with out a drill for more than a week. Good job I have 4 drills but some people might only have the festool.

So its making me think twice if I should buy the Carvex I know I am not going to get soon as it comes out im going to wait this time let other people find the fualts with it!

Dont get me wrong of all the drills I love the T15+3 I must add I was one of the first UK owners  and so their might of been fualts with it which I was unlucky to have one! Still powerfull drill!

There's a company called 10C that has an interesting solution for contractors. They make universal battery chargers with different adapters.

Tom

Tom (or anyone who knows about this "universal charger product"),

Can any of those adapters be used to enable fitment of a battery from one tool maker to a tool from another?  I'd very much like to have an adapter to enable use of the Li-ion batteries from my Festool T12+3 drill with my Makita 12V work lamp, especially since Festool doesn't offer any work lamp excepting the little single battery, single LED lamp which does not produce enough light for most applications.  (I know because I have one.)

Dave R.

I don't think so, Dave.

The adapters are sold to adapt different battery configurations to the universal charger.

Tom

I wouldnt recommend the use of a after market charger not supplied by the manufacture who is to say it charges to batteries correctly maybe to quick  maybe over heats them or over charges them

the safty mechanism mite not be in place to protect the batterie.  Has any one noticed when the festool batterie or charger are very very cold it wont charge straight away you have to wait for it to warm up it must be some protection.

i agree with jmbfestool. i would never use a generic charger for festool batteries.

I still use a Dewalt universal charger to keep my old batteries going. I've used AEG, Bosch, Dewalt, Hitachi, and Makita NiCad batteries with it. It works with any voltage up to 12 ('cause that's all anyone needed back when it was made). It's a light weight solid state "smart" fast charger and I'm convinced my batteries have lasted longer than they would have if I'd used the wire wrapped iron core OEM chargers. It usually takes less than 15 minutes for a full charge although as the capacity of the batteries diminsh the charge time decreases. A 20 year old Hitachi 9.6 is done in a minute but that battery doesn't rotate the drill for long either. Pretty much only useful in the flashlight now.

after looking at the new kapex stand i still think that adapting a dewalt stand is so much better, easy to store, easy to setup and a bit more heavy duty

I Agree But its an improvemnt from the setup before! I am very interested but I would like it that maybe them left and righ rails were attached to the bench and fold up and out so your not carrying to long pieces of metal and wheeling a bench around. Other option is if the Kapex could be attached and fold down (so its on its side more like a trolley so it less likely to fall side to side while wheeling it) making more compact so you can wheel the kapex around  and then carry the supports or maybe still able to carry and wheel!!  Its two trips which is like any other setup!  I just hate the 3 trips! 1 Extra can be like 10 mins longer! IF your van is miles away!

I know you first reported the New RO90, what I didn't know at the time was it also takes a delta shaped sanding pad. Check out the small pictures on this page.

In my mail of the new Rotex RO 90 I mentioned the Fast-Fix Delta DX sanding pad. (New Rotex RO 90 DX)

I also noticed some shops in Holland already trying to sell their last DX93 machines.
Now I know the reason why.
It's also one of the "oldest machines". Still without a Plug-it power cord.
