Hi FOG friends,

Long time lurker, first time poster. I've been thinking about a router upgrade from my Bosch 1617EVS. I currently have 2 of them (One in a Jessem table) and a DCW600B (which I just picked up over the holidays). I had been using the 1617 in a sled for flattening cutting board, and panels. I've put up my 1617EVS kit online to see if I could recoup some of the cost I've put into it. This would give me 3 various sizes of router to tackle almost all tasks I feel.

Just hoping to get some thoughts if the OF2200 would be a good choice? Mainly flattening, routing out bowls, dishes etc and things the trim router wouldn't be able to handle. Maybe I'm just looking for an excuse to buy a new router :)

Thanks!
MDFDoom.

Sorry I have no opinion on the router purchase, just wanted to say best FOG handle ever.

I have a 1617 evs in my router table as well; it's an excellent router.

Buying a festool router, I'd personally go for the 1400 unless my needs specifically dictate I need the extra power and heft of the 2200. The 1400 is roughly equivalent in power to the 1617evs.

The OF2200 is an amazing router! If you want plenty of power with smooth operation and beautiful balance, you wouldn't regret getting one! Ideally the OF1400 would be a good compliment for the lesser jobs, but if you had to buy only one, I would say get the 2200!

I agree with luvmytools on this one. For things that require big bits, like the slab flattening and bowl excavating, the OF2200 is the way to go. Not only does it have the power and heft to do this smoothly, it has superior dust extraction at the same time. Slab (cutting board) flattening is messy, and with the bit hanging so far below a carriage of some sort, it still will be, but the OF2200 does better than others.
