USA Trip Happening!!!

Awesome to see you guys made it.  What's on the plate in the city for the next few days before Saturday.  Again, my apologies I won't be around!  Peter, Dougie and a bunch of the boys will be though.

Welcome to the left side of the pond!  :)

Left is relative.

Did you ever notice that you can travel straight east or west "forever" but if you go north and keep travelling long enough you will eventually be going south (and vice versa)?

Unfortunately  its not going to happen for me  [sad]

Jonny, and gang ........  have a good time !!

I'll be there by then too!

Hey Peter,
When we go to Arlington, it takes about 5hrs (when i was only 38).  With a bit more traffic, and now I'm 39, it has taken as long as 7-1/2 hours.
i get up at about 3am every morning.  shall I give you a wake up call? [poke]

Our daughter was up here a couple of weeks ago and told us the Joisy Pike is a killer with a lot of construction.
It took her 8 hours each way.  That's from a driver who tries for round trip of 8 hrs.
you have another hour or two to add on.  Or will you fly.  If so, you better crank up your CT to dust off your wings.

Have a safe journey.

I wanted to wish our guests a safe return trip, it was great meeting you Jonathan and Kate!  I hope you enjoyed your trip!  And a hearty thanks to all that helped me as I was scoping out the green goods yesterday.  I hope tool nut will be sending out the commission checks shortly.  And of course, thanks to the folks at Tool Nut for hosting and the anonymous benefactor for lunch!  The display area was fantastic.  Everything I wanted to check out was on display.  Well worth the 3.5 hours of driving.  For better or worse, I got out without too much damage and "the list" has a few extra entries on it (CMS and maybe the Kapex).   [smile]

I enjoyed finally meeting and chatting with you JonnyRB. Kate is a most delightful person and has such a wonderful attitude. An inspiration. Have a safe trip home and, Kate, don't lose that smile.

Tool Nuts, Thanks for hosting and thanks to the anonymous pizza man.  I offered Raj a wheelbarrow so he could take home more goodies, but he turned down my offer.  I triiiied. [wink]

All in all, it was a fun day meeting all the regulars once again and especially meeting some I have never met.  Peter drove quite a fer piece to get there.  It should be an easier trip going back as it is all downhill in that direction  ;D
Tinker

Raj,  it was so great to meet you and to talk.  Sorry if my enthusiasm bubbles over too much.  I have been going thru images taken yesterday and some of my favorites are those of members here - even from the other side of the pond - helping out those who want to learn.

Here is an example:  [attachimg=#]

Great to meet you and thank you for coming out to meet Jonathan and Kate!

Peter

JRB, I'm glad that you and Kate were able to make your trip and meet some of your friends from the forum. I hope that the trip was fun and memorable.

It's nice for me to see that this forum is deeper than the common ground we share as enthusiasts for Festool, but that many of us have made friends here, some of whom we have gotten the pleasure to meet in person. I know that I have met people over the years who I call friends and have met many of you at various events across the country over the past roughly 7-8 years dating back to the days when the forum was hosted on Yahoo Groups.

I wish I could have been there as well, but I'm happy that one of our forum ambassadors, Peter, was able to make the trip.

I hope you have a great time here and safe travels on your return.

Shane

No worries!  JRB's selling techniques are definitely more subtle, but you gave me something to think about.  [smile]

Just some party crasher that wandered in out of the turnip patch.  We tried to get rid of him. [unsure]

After a brilliant week in NY, we are finally back home [crying]

I promised an update with some more pictures, so here we go. I've only included a few of the 836 pictures we took (!) as I don't want to bore you all too much!

This is another shot of us in Central Park:

[attachimg=1]

This is me (the fat blurry face!) at the Top Of The Rock:

[attachimg=2]

and a shot of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island from there:

[attachimg=3]

The highlight of the trip for both of us (apart from the FOG meet, of course!) was the helicopter ride. This was just after we took off:

[attachimg=4]

Approaching Liberty Island:

[attachimg=5]

The statue close up (spoilt only by the MASSIVE smear on the outside of the window [mad] ):

[attachimg=6]

Lower Manhattan:

[attachimg=7]

The meet at the Tool Nut was awesome - our thanks go to everyone there. Unfortunately I completely forgot to take any pictures [doh] but here are a couple Kate took. Dave Reinhold and Peter Halle:

[attachimg=8]

Lastly, a shot where nearly everyone is obscured, but I thought I'd include it anyway! One of the downsides of taking pictures sitting down, when everyone else is standing...

From the left, we have; Peter's left arm, the top of Sal LiVecci's head, someone I don't know, Builder Bob, Sam (who will be known as 'Sam the Lurker' until he finally says hello on here [poke] ), and Wayne Tinker (now known as 'Old Abe', apparently!):

[attachimg=9]

I'm certain Peter has a few more pictures...

Thanks for the photographs. Glad the trip was a success [smile].

Tinker, at least from the back, looks like I imagined he would be.

Jonny,

Glad you guys are back home safely and recuperating from your travels.  I would love to see more of your NY images.  I sent Sean a copy of all my images so that he could post them here.

The Plaza hotel is currently being renovated, but they've wrapped the scaffold with a print of the building, which we both thought was quite cool:

So glad you made the trip here and back, and enjoyed yourselves, meeting lots of new faces to match old names here on the FOG. I thought Tinker would have more brick or motar dust on him, even at 39 he looked pretty clean in the pictures... [big grin]
