Hello

I have a pair of large bench dogs from Veritas and I was wondering if it would be possible to use them as rail dogs.
since they take an 8M bolt it should be possible. The problem is, is that the heads of standard M8 bolts are too large to fit in the groove. M6 bolts are small enough but won't work of course.

I wonder if this square nut would work. would need to fix the thread to it somehow though

or something like this.

But the head should be the correct size.

Has anyone tried like this before or have any ideas?

Rail dogs will not give you such precise cuts as the dogs shown used in their normal manner.

The problem is that as the material thickness being cut gets greater then the offset error of a dog not secured against its collar from below gets greater as well.

If accuracy is not an issue then rails dogs can be used.

Dogs used to determine the position of a guide rail should either be secured from below (as with the Veritas Parf Dogs or TSO Dogs) or have integral securing (as with the UJK Parf Super Dogs).

I am not ashamed of the plug for two of these products as they were each developed to enhance the accuracy of cuts using a guide rail.

ok thank you for the advice. I ordered the UJK Dog Rail Clip to fasten the rail to my parf dogs.
