Used Kapex - warranty?

I bought my kapex "used" from Rockler.  technically it was never sold to anyone before me, but it was the demo unit they used in the store.  I tried to register it when I bought it, but even though the manuf. date is from 2012, the system would not let me register it.  I figured that was fine since I'm pretty handy with repairing things myself, and I got a good discount on the saw.  Plus I own a ton of tools and not one of them from any brand has ever broken inside the warranty period.

Over the past few months it has served me well.  Last night I needed to cut a bevel so I went to tilt the saw... and the bevel handle broke.  Now it just spins freely.  I think it's an easy fix, but I can't find a repair manual anywhere and I don't want to just start taking stuff off the saw without an idea of how it's supposed to be done.  I know I can order the part(s) once I figure out what snapped.

So - is there any chance of getting this repaired under warranty?  Like I said it was purchased from a retailer and had not been previously sold.  and the manufacture date shows that it's still within the 3 year warranty period.  By all rights it *should* still be covered.  Even if I can't get it fixed under warranty, is there a repair manual out there in some secret corner of the internet?  I'd love to get my hands on that and order the part, assuming festool won't fix it for me.

thanks!

You should contact Festool Service regarding warranty coverage.  The warranty coverage transfers with the tool for the first three years.  The phone number is on your Kapex label.

You could also ask them about a repair manual.  I am not aware of any out there.  If you ever need parts there is an electronic parts catalog online called "ekat".  It is even accessible from the Forum.  Co to the top of the page and click on Festool Websites.  Then choose Spare Parts Catalog.  You will be able to navigate from there.  The site requires java so it is best to use a laptop or desktop.

thanks.  I will try to contact them.  I'm familiar with ekat, but without tearing into the tool I'm not sure which part I need.  I obviously don't want to do that unless the warranty is definitely out.

Same situation with me. I bought the saw used from a private party and it died after 6 months of (my) use.  I thought for sure i was "sol" I called festool repair and they told me where to find the date on the saw. I gave it to them and he told me it was fully covered. I went on line and filled out a repair ticket and had a shipping label immediately! Sent the saw to them and not only did they fix but they went through the whole saw and replaced decals, insert etc.  I was very impressed to say the least. So, sorry for rambling but you should be all set.

man that is awesome news.  it won't be a lot of fun to be without the saw while it's out for repair... but if they give it the same treatment they did yours I'll be a very happy camper!

This is second hand information, so ask the source (Festool Service) BUT I was told once that Festool Demo gear is sold at ridiculously low prices to the dealers so they have stuff to play with, but because of that it is wold with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY of any kind.

Now, whether Festool tracks that or enforces it I can't say, but it would seem to be worth a phone call to find out?
