User error or Festool problem?

A friend  bought a used Festool Trion PS 300 EQ-Plus jigsaw for his son last year. He borrowed it before the purchase. A few days ago tried to cut through 1/4" BB ply with it because he thought that was the easiest quickest way for him to get it cut. Clamped a level to the plywood to use as a fence for the jigsaw. He didn't get very far into the cut when it started throwing sparks off.
I noticed that the blade had turned inward! I can't see anyway to have turned that jigsaw. What the heck is going on here?

This was the second time he had attempted to do this same exact thing. I think the first time he was trying to cut through 3/4" BB ply. I figured that was just too thick for it and thought even the cheapest jigsaw could make it through 1/4" ply without any problems. Wrong!

Could the tool be bad? Is it worth fixing? If so how would that work?
Any thoughts or ideas are appreciated

Or get a Mafell P1cc as that one completely avoids this problem, a more expensive solution but it'll solve the issue for sure.

I suggest you check if the blade was parallel with the edge of the footplate. You can clamp ruler on the blade to see if it is parallel along the footplate.

What was throwing sparks exactly?  I am sure a Trion can cut 3/4" plywood, having done it myself.

I am assuming that he used a level as a fence on the top side, where the body of the saw is just running the sole against it to get a straight line (i.e. not trying to get the blade to follow the level itself - which if the blade sparked against a level makes it user error IMO).

I have saw similar things before. It was not spark but blade was very hot and wood was burned.

It was caused by that blade was a little twisted. As the saw move forward, it will twisted more and the force will bend the blade as well. Where ever the blade has contact on the saw can create a lot of heat becasue of frictions.

Is too much force being applied to push the jigsaw forward maybe?
(Didn't the original carvex have a problem along these lines: burning blades or some such? something to do with the blade guides)

I'll check that the blade guides are adjusted properly...that may be what's sparking.
