Using an indexing bar with Domino...

I was boring mortises in the bases of the tressels for an auxillary bench I'm making.  To my horror, where I wanted the mortises was in the "in between zone," of the onboard indexing and the outrigger indexing.  I grabbed the indexing rod for my Dowelmax and after measuring the first and setting the index bar, I bored the remaining 15 using the index bar.

  Is the rod attached, or just butted up to the Domino?

ETA: On your blog, I seem to only get about half through your videos before they stop playing??? Likely some problem on my end???

I had the same thought. MOT has shown how he did this on his blog .It is butted to the Domino.

Yes, it's not attached, it's just butted up to it.  Sitting and thinking about it, I was pretty unlucky to get into the "in between" zone, but this worked really well.  There was a little fumbling around on my part to get used to using it, but I only really struggled with about 2 of the 15 mortises that I used it to index.  It was a two left foot awkwardness.  I found that I had better control of the Domino with my right hand and better control of the indexing rod with my left...even crossing over hands to ensure this led to really easy setup.  Once the Domino is positioned, I put the bar on the bench and get both hands on the Domi to bore the mortise.

Thanks, Brice.  I was just thinking that the support bracket would have added some ease to the process.  I should have had some sort of clamp or stop block to keep the piece from moving side to side as well.  I've taken a few more test drives with the setup and it's actually easier than I made it look.  ;D

You know it's true, brother!  ;D  I debated reshooting that, but then it's contrived.  The thing that ticked me off is, I had successfully done it a bunch of times without the two left feet thing...**shrug**...this is why I still carry my own golf bag, too.

I had a project this weekend that hit that "in between zone".  It drives me nuts I hope they come up with a better pin system for the domino some day.

Up till now I had not yet a problem with the "in between" zone of the Domino. The distance between 37 and 100 mm is an impossibility. But when this problem should arise for me, I have already made a drawing for two small blocks to attach to the sidestops. The drawings are in an old-fashioned low-tech style, handmade. I hope they will be clear enough to read for the metric dare-devils who wish to make them.
I will make two blocks, one as drawn and one as mirror-image. Material will be brass or aluminium. Two screws M3 x 16 with internal hexagon wil be mounted in the sides and locked with loctite or equivalent. These screws will keep the block aligned with the side-stop. The third screw goes on top to clamp to the pin of the side-stop. To use the in between zone you have to move the pin of the side-stop to the desired width, with increments of 1 mm.
If the drawings are not clear enough, please tell me. I will then devise other forms of showing.
