Have any of you used a mini or midi as a regular home vac?  We currently have an Oreck that I am preparing to toss out the window.  I was looking into getting a midi for my onsite vac and I thought we could also use it as our home vac since it won't be in use in the shop all the time.  I know there are better vacs out there for general house use but I don't want to buy two different vacs if I can avoid it.  Will the mini or midi do a sufficient job around the house?

I had never thought of that but I don't see why not.  I have the ct33e and that sucker can suck (pardon the pun).  The only donwside would be the cost of the bags.  I have an orick (long befor the ct) and never had an issue.  My son just bought (he's 13 and it was my money) a Roomba iRobot for the wife's bday and that little things the trick. I let it run and when it gets low on juice it returns to the docking station to recharge.  Now if that booger could just come pick me up at the pub it would be perfect!

I have a CT33 and if it shares the same wheels as the smaller units, I certainly wouldn't want to risk scratching my hardwood floors by dragging that thing around. The Festool vac excels in the shop in sanding dust collection but even any el cheapo deluxe home vacuum will outperform it on carpet at a fraction of the cost. My $600 Miele Red Star HEPA gets owned badly by a $75 bagless Bissell at 80% of the vacuuming tasks within the home and is the best tool to reach for most instances. The Miele, although powerful in it's own right, works best vacuuming in places the upright cannot fit and where the powerful suction might be too much in more delicate cleaning situations by being variable speed or by having the ability to turn off the brush for usage on hardwood floors. Now if I lived in a pop-up trailer or upon a small boat, then the Festool Mini might be more appreciated. ;) To each his own for their given situation I guess? 8)

I use my mini as my home vacuum with the installer cleaning set. Works well for me but I have all wood floors with only a couple small rugs. I do keep an eye on the wheels to make sure they are free of burrs.

Festool designed the wheels to avoid picking up grit so that they can be used to transport systainers into the jobsite and used at the jobsite (possibly new hardwoods) without a lot of concern that the wheels would "load up".

i would think that doing carpets it would take way to long compared to a vac desgined for carpet.  .when I use my midi to clean up sometimes at a jobsite, due to it just being their and it is easier than going back to the van to get the shop vac... it is a pain on carpets.

What was that phone number again?
Can I drop your name Tom? >:( >:( ;D

I like ther weight of the CT Mini/midi but find the suctioin of the CT 22/33 much better fort carpets.

Matter of fact my wife won't ust the Mini at all for her van carpets simply cause the 22 does a better job
