I just posted a new add to my website. It is "Procedure - Cutting Exact Same Widths Using the Parallel Guide"  I know that the parallel guide has been discussed here, and it is not a new product, but I am slow. I have had it for moons and just now using it. It works very well and is a very good answer to the question, "Do I need a table saw for making repetitive narrow cuts." NO!
  Your comments will be appreciated.

Hi John,

Excellent report.    I am going to order the guide and also the cover plate # 491750.  I just sold my Euro combo machine so without a tablesaw this option will really help.  Now if I order through Bob M. usually all I have to do is think of what I want and it shows up the next day with him.  I just got my second MFT and it showed up the day after I ordered it.

John, how are you doing now, getting around 100% I hope.  Really glad to see your post.

Take care,
Rye Crane

I do not have nor have I ever seen the parallel guide, so I may well be missing something very obvious, but is it the case that it can't be used with a guide rail, (obviating the need to hold the parallel guide against the edge of the work piece)?
Regards

I think you would have to  place the guide rail and then run the saw along it without cutting, keeping the parallel guide tight to work piece in order to make sure that the rail and parallel guide were perfectly parallel to each other throughout the cut before making an actual cutting pass.  This might be a way to align the rail for a rip cut rapidly, and then be able to make the cut with out worrying about the saw wondering away from the board.

Brian,
I think Seth describes it well. In the case of using a guide rail and the parallel guide, the latter would become a "setup block" as Seth described, and then you would make the cut with the guide rail.
I am the biggest fan of the guide rail, but the parallel guide works very effectively.

Rye,
Thanks for your good thoughts. I am doing fine for an 82 yo man. Unfortunately, I am only 70.  Just kidding, mostly.

Thanks for the idea - getting the clamping just right might be the tricky part - but the existence of the parallel guide is (good) news to me.
Regards

Thanks for the ideas and pics, John.  Glad to hear you are well, and looking forward to seeing you refine your method of using the parallel rip accessory.

Regards,

John
