My first question might be an old thread but instead of googling I will ask.  How well does the rail grip to UV coated plywood, Formica, etc. ?

[welcome] to the FOG!

I can't answer your question, but I'm sure someone be along shortly to do so...

formica...very well in my experience.  Have cut a number to countertops and never had a problem.

The pre-finished plywood can be an issue. I use the Gecko with the rail adapter.

I had it slip one time on prefinished ply and that was enough.  I always clamp or use the parallel guides.

Don't know about laminate.

I haven't had any trouble with it slipping. Make sure the dust is brushed off the grip strips and the plywood is on something that supports it well.

Not to change the subject, but how durable are the uv finished plywoods? Do they scratch easily when handling them?

They scratch.  Wipe-on poly makes light scratches disappear.

Lam. Counter tops not too many problems. Pre-finished ply can be a problem. I always clamp or use with the gecko. Pre-finished ply is great to work with. It can scratch but just normal machining like running through the table saw its ok.
