I ended up getting the Excel 5 from Veneer Supplies after reading the advice on this thread. I also ordered the SE 1 from Woodcraft. The SE 1 and Excel 5 both arrived today, within 3 days of placing my order. The only thing I'm waiting on now is the SE2, which I ordered from BIS.

That's exactly how I ordered my SE1, SE2 and Excel5 lol :) SE2 is arriving from BIS tomorrow :) Enjoy my friend! I just test SE1 with Excel5 and it blew my mind~~~
.

You watch the Videos and you're like..    Ok,  That's cool.

Then you get it, and use it....... and your like.. "Damn there's a lot of different things I can use this for"

I used mine to assemble tables, boxes, shelves.
Paint a larger part with a roller and don't want it shifting and moving around.
Basically anything you need to stay put, and still have access on all 4 sides is where  a Vacuum head is so nice.

I've followed the path of other FoGgers and purchased two SE 2's and an Excel 5 pump and will kluge a Vac Sys together. Keeping fingers crossed on a foot pedal and round head, but I can work around that if they aren't available. There's been mention of a dump valve instead of a foot pedal, so if anyone has a manufacturer and part number I'd appreciate it.

Another approach to obtaining a Festool vacuum pump, and for the record I'm absolutely NOT suggesting this, is to simply order all of the parts from Festool. Apparently they are available to repair a pump. But there's just one(?) catch, the total cost w/o taxes and shipping is cost, $1,268.60! [eek] Plus I can't help but wonder what would happen if you called the parts department with that order? Anyway, I thought I'd throw that one out there. [wink]

Foot ($35 & $40) and any sort of other type valve you may need are available though Automationdirect.com.  This site is a designer and tinker heaven.

Ive posted this before but you do "not" need a pedal.  I use the "TAILONZ PNEUMATIC 1/4"NPT 5 Way 2 Position Air Hand Lever Operated Valve Pneumatic Solenoid Valve Manual Control Push-Pull 4H210-08"

Its small and keeps junk off the floor.  Personally, I dont see the appeal of having a pedal.  The switch is small and operates easily with just a flick of a finger.  I would never want a pedal but different strokes I guess.  The important part is whatever you use has a way to release the vacuum.  The first switch I bought didnt have a way to release the vacuum. So after you flipped the switch the part stayed stuck for a few minutes until enough vacuum was lost to remove the part.  The 5 way releases instantly.  The ports are easy P= In from pump, A or B goes to the pods please note "OR" if you are using 2 pods you need to wye of "either" A OR B to split it.  If you used A for one pod and B for the other you would release one pod while activating the other.  doesnt matter which port you use you will just cap off the unused port with a 1/4npt cap from HD.  Ports =R-S get the little mufflers if you want but I dont use them.

No one needs to worry about the discontinuation of the vac sys.  Barth has pods and a whole lot more.

Did you price any of that out???  I'm glad I got the Festool before it was too late.  Cheese was right, it's a bargain when you look at stuff like Barth.

I saw a few members do this, and after having used the VacSys system now for a while, I'm starting to see the logic behind adding more QC on the hoses.

It just makes packing, unpacking and setting up the system a whole lot easier, quicker, and cleaner.

Also helps when the hoses are all twisted or crossed up, since the QC can rotate without any restriction.

All the Fittings Totaled up to only $45  which isn't too bad for the convenience.

Excellent VacSys porn, thanks for sharing! Could you please share a link for the QC vendor. I use similar QC for my water-cooled PC and with 45 USD I barely get 2 pieces, LOL
Cheers

No problem.

Unfortunately, In Typical AMAZON Fashion.. the prices are  few bucks higher today then 6 days ago.  Sorry.  ;-(

But they are still lower cost then anywhere else I can find.

Milton S-314VKIT Kit, 14pc Hi-Flo V style 1/4",

(10-Pack)  :  3/8" Barb X 1/4" MNPT  Fittings

(12-Pack) :  Brass Pipe Fitting, Coupling, 1/4" x 1/4" Female Pipe

You probably already have Teflon Tape, but if you don't.
Teflon Tape

Almost forgot, you will need (12) qty  of  12.8mm-15.3mm  Hose clamps
I already had purchased this assortment kit previously.
Hose Clamps

.

TIP:  Use a  Hair dryer, or Hot Air Gun, to soften up the hose.  It makes jamming those BARBS in the hose a whole lot easier.

Don't forget to put the hose clamp on FIRST  [big grin]

[member=77446]Domino11[/member] Maybe I'm misunderstanding. It appears you've also added 4 of the Festool push connect fittings. Those are about $50 each, no?

Those are actually the Original Festool Push Connects that come with the VacSys SE1 and SE2.
When you cut the hoses to install more Push Connects, you just switch ends on the hose, and now the Nice Festool Connects are at the end of the Head units, instead of flopping around on the floor waiting to be stepped on and broken.
Instead of you have the more Durable Alum/Steel Connects flopping around on the floor, and the Nice Festool Plastic ones up near the head.

Hope that makes sense.

One thing not mentioned is that with that style of ear clamp you'll need an ear clamp pliers. Knipex offers this one for $31.
https://www.amazon.com/Knipex-Tools...2d6f4f&pd_rd_wg=CEuyo&pd_rd_i=B01I3H6UIC&th=1

I find it easier to just order the ear clamps from Festool as they're gear style and reusable. If you need to reconfigure the tubing for some reason you just unscrew the clamp. They are the original Swiss Oetiker brand, stainless clamp that comes with the modules. Festool part number 479 816 and cost $2.83 each.
