VAC SYS DISCONTINUED?

I put together a system with the Veneer Supplies pump and 2 SE-2's in March when SE-2 was the only thing left in stock anywhere. If anyone wants to trade one of my SE-2's for a SE-1 (with foot pump), I'll be glad to. I'm in SF Bay Area.

I remember, how you liking that pump? If my frankenpump ever dies thats what I plan on replacing it with.

Anyone seen a VT D 215 pad (the round circle) anywhere?  I have a Joe's pump with the SE1 and SE2, but would prefer a larger pad on the SE2.

Hey All,

Finally received the Doscornio.

Its very solid. One thing that gave me a frowny face, someone pointed out in this thread like 20 pages ago the MONO 3D price is just for one head mount; It seems this is correct. I'm not that upset, since 99% of the time i'd just use one suction pad anyway.

Shipping: It got to my doorstep in TWO DAYS after being picked up in Germany. Amazing.

It was all packed well, and nothing damaged. I'll have to actually use it and report back, but here are a bunch of pictures. FWIW, i've never used a Vac-Sys, so i couldn't compare it.

This system is all metal, One cool thing (not sure if Vac sys can?) is one of the two plate positions can rotate 360 degrees; not a huge deal for a small workpiece like in my pics, but if you had a big panel it could def be useful.

It is more costly then the Vac-sys, so comments earlier about how much of a bargain the Vac-sys is aint no joke.

Hopefully i can start a fresh post on it after i've used it a bit. One thing i gotta see is if that Vac-sys plate for the MFT will fit this.

Lastly, that little tool thing with the copper blade thingy, is a foil puller they make, for removing protective coatings from metal surfaces; But i found a quick use for it; removing backing from double sided tape.

The Excel 5 is working great for me and is fairly quiet. I have not used the VAC SYS pump, so I can't compare the two. I might buy the upgrade kit from Joe and turn the Excel 5 into an EVS-2 which has a vacuum reservoir and does not need to run continuously.

Oooh thank you for updating! Was wondering if you wound up getting this - looks like a REALLY nice piece of machinery. Keep us posted after you get a chance to put her to work.

I was the one who posted about the mono only including one head (after several very confusing back and forths with the rep), but even then I wasn’t actually sure.

Anyway, hope you enjoy it!

Thanks, will report back.

I pinged them for confirmation; seems the 3D version can tilt both directions, while the mono can only go one direction. The 180 buck difference between them and it just being a feature difference like that actually makes more sense, instead of 180 bucks for a completely separate second stand with two suction surfaces on it.

I'll just mention to them maybe be more direct on their website about that distinction, as all the literature about it shows two stands. I get it though, their normal clients is probably for a factory floor with a whole bunch of these and sales reps bringing in demo equipment; and seeing their other offerings, such as the Quatro (man its sweet, roll around and suctions to the floor!) i'm not their target audience.

Good day,

I just purchased the demo unit of the Vac Sys from my local Festool dealer.  I would like to get a couple of smaller heads.  What are the most used heads ?  I am a cabinetmaker/custom woodworker.

Also, I am assuming Festool treats a marked down item as a regular sale.  In other words, the 3 year warranty applies.  Anyone have any comment on this.

Thanks.

Brian

I have been vacuum clamping for awhile. I dont use the vac sys but will say you can never have enough different size/shapes.  you will need them all at some point so you better get them all now while you still can.

Were these marked down? The price looked like what I would have paid for it had I bought it 1 year ago. Of course that price was much lower than the price they released it at. I think they dropped it a few years ago.

When introduced into the US in 2016, the pump with 1 head was $1300, the pump with 2 heads was $1800, and the SE1 & SE2 heads were $550 each. Then in 2019 the prices were dropped to $990, $1375 and $425 respectively.

It seems like they've been around in the US for longer than that.  [tongue]

I haven't any experience using a vacuum press but had to have one! I purchased an excel five from Joe also. Don't have the unit yet but will get it by Thursday hopefully.  So we don't want these to run continuous? We would need an upgrade kit for this?

An underfunded workshop is the worst thing to have!

I don't have too much experience either but here's my understanding of things: it's completely fine to run the Excel pump continuously - that's what it's made for. The EVS-2 upgrade is probably even more meaningful for vacuum bagging but I like the idea of the pump not running and using the vacuum reservoir most of the time just to keep things quiet. I think the VAC SYS pump also runs 100% of the time, just like Excel.

Well you know the old saying (better to have it and not need it rather than to need it and not have it) that's my new motto to justify all these purchases.

I'll be honest, the vac sys was an impulse purchase for me. When it finally showed up and I saw how big it was, I thought for sure I was gonna have to sell it (tiny garage shop here).

...then I made the mistake of playing with it last weekend. Best thing since sliced bread.

Same here; I used the Docornio on Memorial day for a project, making lots of melamine panels for a closet built in.

Total came changer; vacuum clamp the piece, make your domino cuts (using the domino connectors for the 500), then edge band, trim with the mfk, boom, panel done.

One thing on the Doscornio that i'm curious if the vac sys can do (i've never used a vacsys before); Can you rotate the suction pad while the piece is still vacuum clamped? The Dosconio you can, it's SOOO nice especially with panel that moving with 1 hand isn't very easy.

Yes, the Vac Sys can do this, and it can spin 360 within that plane (to answer a question you asked earlier as well).

In addition to squall_line's comment the Vac sys can also be tilted while base clamped as well as rotated.  Used mine mostly for plastic fabrication sanding...fantastic tool.

Meanwhile, there’s a guy on the classifieds here trying to resell his SE1 for $1800… No comment (tried to think of something nice to say, but couldn’t 😂)

I saw that as well and the story is so long and convoluted that one has to wonder if it is completely true. I don’t care how he got them, why he is selling them, or what he selling them for. Just list the items with some pictures and condition. No one needs the overly detailed explanation.

Not saying it is not true, just that over explaining anything comes across as sketchy.

falls under the “too much detail” to be
