has anyone had any issues having this clamping system bruise a soft wood?
im a bit nervous to try this system on some clear red cedar...
any input would help largely:)
thanks peps,

I have clamped pine with no issues. I Romberg reading that a user had seen residue on some wood he clamped. I’ve never seen that with my unit.

I have never had any marks or dents left by the VacSys heads on anything l mounted on it; soft or hard. One of the great things about it is the flexibility you get to clamp just about anything for sanding, gluing and using the Domino. While expensive it was one of the tools that I never regretted buying.

Run strips of masking tape across the area where the cedar will contact the head.

I really doubt this is necessary but, if you feel it is, experiment on some cedar scrap. I'm not sure that the VacSys heads will hold securely if you insert masking tape between them as the tape may not allow a complete seal.

One thing you can do is to:

1. Take a piece of baltic birch ply and drill a small hole in the center.
2. Get some rubbery weatherstripping with an adhesive back and affix to the plywood so it is within the area that the cedar will cover.
3. Put the plywood on the Vacsys head and the cedar on top of the weather strip. The weather strip will seal the cedar to the plywood and act just as if the cedar was directly on the head. If your doing routing, though the cedar will obviously need to extend over the edges of the plywood.

I don't think this is necessary though. I can't imagine the cedar will be marked. Just experiment to satisfy yourself.
