Vacsys mount for MFT

I always accepted the fact that Festool tools command a premium price. The quality in most cases of the tool exceeds that of nearly every competitor. They are generally a pleasure to use. If given the option, I would have likely opted out of the sustainers just to save $75-$100 since my tools are used in a shop. Although I admit I like the “new” sustainers with T-loc, and am glad I have the systainer for these tools.

I saw the vacsys a few months ago, and am thinking of adding this to my shop.  I came across this accessory

I think Festool is out of touch at least on this.  $270 for a stamped piece of metal with two 90 degree bends and 2 threaded holes. Priced at over half the cost of a 1010 Router. Am I missing something in this bracket?

Like you I find $270 for some sheet metal to be a little too pricey!

The beauty of this design is that it places the Vac-Sys just above the height of the MFT, a height I find much more comfortable.

Here's my mount, I made 2 of these.

A piece of drop stainless $4.

2 pieces of aluminum 7/8" round turned to 20mm and tapped for 3/8"-16 screws $8.

2 stainless 3/8"-16 x 1" BHCS $1.50.

Each mount cost $13.50 and took approximately 45 minutes to fabricate.

I can place these mounts anywhere I want on my MFT style work bench & work table.

A consideration for where you use the vac sys: if doing lr32 work a single clamp won't provide good support for cabinet sides, but two Sys-1 Systainers stack to the same height as the vacuum head. Cheap and readily available secondary support.

Hey Michael, I pick the stuff up from here. https://www.discountsteel.com

They're a materials supplier but they also offer fabrication services. Well when they're fabricating, "drop" is usually the scrap that falls to the floor when they're shearing material for a job. They price the stuff fairly because it really is job scrap.

If you look closely, you'll notice 2 different radiuses on the ends of the stainless. Was that a mistake or are these just extra pieces from the job? In this situation, you get what you get. [big grin]

The aluminum round I used for the dogs is also drop. It's priced about 33%-50% of what standard aluminum round would cost.

I did the wooden mount from the Conturo manual.  I like it.  I generally use the VacSys in thenis configuration because I don’t like that much weight hanging off of the side of my bench or my MFT.

Outstanding job on your mount. I had avoided even looking at the VAC SYS, but there has been enough chatter here of recent that I took a more careful look at.

I bought the mounting bracket and really like it. The vacuum head swings under the MFT, is out of the way, and can be placed backitouse very quickly. Expensive? Yes. But well made and works well.

I don't really keep track of the projects I build.  I buy all the 8020 material from their Ebay store.  The extrusions are 15 series, the UHMW pieces that are used for the 90% attachment is their bi-fold door accessory.

FWIW...I needed to purchase some 8020 stuff yesterday and while the prices on their web site and on Ebay are the same, the shipping on Ebay is 30%-50% cheaper.  [big grin]

Some $2 toilet flange bolts and scrap ply works well for me

I also used the nylon washers that came with the  toilet flange hardware in front of the plywood base to hold the bolt stationary while sliding it into the table
