Van racked for Systainers

Hopefully these pictures will work.  Never had much luck putting photos online, seems to take me forever.

These are a few shots of my old van, Chevy Express half ton. I miss working out of that thing, currently have a Chevy 2500HD fitted out with side access for systainers and double 80/20 bed slides. But it's not like the van...

  On the create a post or topic page.


1.  Click "Attachments and other options".

2.  Place curser in the location in post that you want the picture to appear.

3.  Click "Browse" .

4.  Choose and click to open the picture you want from your computer. The picture file info should pop into the browse box on FOG.

5.  Use the drop down that is adjacent to the "Browse" button to choose insertion type that you want. Probably "Full Size". A bracketed "Attach Img.." will pop into the post.

6.  Reposition curser to locate the next picture in post.

7.  Repeat #3 - #6 for each picture. Put each picture in a separate Browse box. Add more Browse boxes as needed.

Great looking setup, makes for a professional look with the customers. I really like where you placed the table saw, not having to craw into the van to drag out something heavy. Is your van a GMC/Chevy?

Hi David,

I no longer own that van but it was a half ton Chevy Express.

Table saw placement was meant to be a temp fix but I ended up loving it- it never moved around even on rough roads. Easier on the back for sure.

I just miss sliding material right up the aisle instead of strapping to the racks or needing to use my trailer.

But I really like the truck in the snow. Had to sell both the van and my truck to get the new one, moved to a new house with limited parking space.

I'll try to get a few more pics up later of the MFT and vac storage, you'll also get a peek at how I snuck sheet goods in there.

I also sheeted the bulkhead on each side and carpeted every surface I could. Got rid of the pass thru door and just made a dog hole between the seats so 12' material could go up the middle. Kept it very quiet and easy to hear and cool. Also insulated and paneled the roof and threw some lights up there.

Seth, the cubbies over the wheel wells held work lights, saw all, mechanics tools and demo gear. Took a full week to build it all out. The guy who bought it was overjoyed when he saw the interior.

At some point I'll try to get some pics up of my system of moving tools, most of my ideas started here with Dan Rush and Seth showing off their gear. Stealing with my eyes I suppose...

Actually it occurred to me that we already met in Providence a year or two ago- in the men's room of all places.  I recognized you from your photo.  If we ever meet again hopefully it will be in a more favorable location. [smile]

Ok. Spent the morning shoveling off the roof and breaking out the ice dams, finally have a chance to try and get out a few more pics. Here goes-

Pretty amazing what all fit in there and how much material could move with it.

The front shelf running left to right was key. MFTs fit perfectly and were at a great height to slide an arm in and get a shoulder under the edge. CT22 or both midi vacs fit too, drywall lift when needed, and underneath was high enough to fit compound buckets, compressor or small makita chop saw ( that's my go to saw due to its size and weight). Notice the gap in the oak edging. It's sized for ten sheets of 3/4 ply on edge and the right side stop lined up fore and aft with the passenger side shelving walls so I could clamp the stack for transport. Worked like a charm.

Forgot to include a shot of sheet goods loaded. Floppy quarter inch so not the best example, but...notice the f clamp in the top right securing the stack.

Those white oak planks are twelve footers slid up thru the dog hole into the cockpit between the seats.

If you're wondering, the last pic in the previous post is what Friday afternoon looks like. Careful pack up be damned.

That's a really well thought out design!

I am constantly impressed and educated by what people come up with. I have a 'bucket list' of stuff I track to build or incorporate some day.
