Very disappointed

Given the relatively low-level social science theory that the "social scientist" has brought into the discussion, I am going to guess that he has a bachelor's degree in social psychology from a mid-level university and has some sort of personality disorder that leads him to use that dubious level of scientific education to justify acting like a brat.  Real scientists conduct experiments with methodology and emotional distance.  Social pariahs use whatever excuse they can do get attention in whatever venue they can manage to do it.

There are plenty of us floating around the FOG with advanced degrees, yet you will notice that no one else goes about dropping titles to make a point.  That is generally because most of us act like reasonable adults and not borderline sociopaths.  The need to state one's expertise in defense of a breach of decorum is usually the result of some inferiority complex related to one's actual lack education or expertise.  It's the intellectual equivalent of small man's disease.  The only way to deal with it is to ignore it.

Might I suggest that the "social scientist" be ignored for the good of the forum and so we can steer back to talking about tools?

Well stated.  Negative attention is still attention.

Members need not devote any attention or effort to ignoring JohnDistai.  He is unavailable for comment.

Let's leave it at that and do as Dane suggested - let's talk tools.

Thanks.  I had resolved not to read anything more that he wrote.  Now it will be really easy to keep that resolution.

For me, sarcasm is a life style as all who really know me understands. Add to that, I am often a grouchy old codger. Together, that gets me in trouble at times. Twice I have posted here and received comments about my sarcasm as a result privately (not from Festool or administrators) - and they were correct in having me reread and edit them. It is way too easy to just type and hit post. I have learned (slowly) to always reread a couple times what I type before posting trying to see if what I am saying could be viewed differently than what I wanted to say. Sorry if I have offended at times.

I truly appreciate the FOG and all that Christian and Shane have allowed us to discuss here. So much has been learned. I wish I could tell Matthew face to face how much i appreciate how he poured his heart and soul into this forum for so long. Sure hope he likes how it has turned out.

Peter,
Sorry I missed this topic before!

Thanks for your post.  It makes me proud to see the forum growing, knowing that it had such humble beginnings.

Besides the basic concept, I'm also happy to know that the forum design I developed (visual elements, site structure, and code editing) is still being used.  A lot of time went into both the ideas and the implementation, so its longevity is a source of pride.

To me, the FOG is proof that if you visualize a goal and push forward with dedication and an organized set of ideas, you can get there.  Of course, the road along the way can be rather bumpy, even treacherous at times.

Thanks,
Matthew

Matthew,

Nice to know you are still out there.  I am sure that I speak for most, if not all of us, when once again I express my gratitude to you for your efforts in developing this wonderful forum.  I don't know what I'd do without it.  Seriously.

In addition, one of your most underrated accomplishments, in my view, were your excellent and timeless reviews.  Just last week I purchased a Rotex 150 and reread your review.  Not only informative, but most entertaining.

Wish you and you family the best...
