Wait for the new CXS or look for a sale on the original version?

It looks like release for the new CSX tools is soon...Festool did the "new tool" email today and some retailers have them in their catalog for PreOrder...Toolnut is an example of the latter.

Just looking at the specs on the new CXS 12 vs the original CXS 2.6, there are some pretty major improvements considering they're both the same size.
CXS 12 = 7" tall x 6-5/32" long & weighs 1.54#.
CXS 2.6 = 6-3/4" tall x 6-1/2" long & weighs 1.55#.

CXS 12:
Max rpm 1600
Max wood drill & steel drill ø...35 mm & 10 mm
Torque 1st gear 9.7 in/lb to 70.8 in/lb.
Max torque wood/steel 150.5 in/lb & 265.5 in/lb.

CXS 2.6:
Max rpm 1300
Max wood drill & steel drill ø...12 mm & 8 mm
Torque 1st gear 2.7 in/lb to 30.1 in/lb.
Max torque wood/steel 88.5 in/lb & 141.6 in/lb.

Those are some considerable capacity increases while maintaining the same footprint size. The addition of an electronic clutch system on the new CXS 12 is also a big deal for me. Even though the battery capacities are the same, there should be an improvement in run-time with the new brushless version.

I purchased the original CXS in 2013 with 1.5Ah batteries for $295, the new CXS with 2.5Ah batteries and an attic lid is only $349, I consider that a deal.

I was surprised by the price as well. Especially for the set version being only $50 more. I wonder if more tools would eventually use the 12V platform.

Note that [member=44099]Cheese[/member] is comparing 2013 price for the original CXS with today's price for the new CXS.

Let's compare today's Canadian prices:
CXS 2.6 Set (576099)  $429
CXS 12 Set (576869)    $469

Huh. Only $40 more. What's that - $25 US bucks? In addition to the capacities and electronic clutch, the ability to use all the FastFix chucks is a pretty big deal, too.

265 ft-lb is what most of the 12v Bosch drills do.  That's a real sweet spot, IMO.

I'm definitely interested, but I really want the T, not the C.  Can't imagine why they'd withold that one model.....

I think you mean 265 in-lbs… [smile]

I hope my local dealer gets some in stock early on. I would like to get my hands on one before committing. I like the attic lid part, but not thrilled about a taller Systainer to get it.

Ya you're right, 265 of something is better than 1 of nothing.  [big grin]

You're may be on the clock at the time, but I noticed that this fall's Festool Tour is making MANY more stops than last year.  Last year, the closest I could get was a 2 hour trip to Des Moines.  This year, there's one at the new Woodcraft 30 minutes away but also one at the Acme Tools location right here in town.  I'm hoping to sneak away and get my hands on some of the new gear this time around.

The one closest to me is in fact my preferred local dealer. I would hope they have them in stock before then. They have a demo space all the time, so that would work.
I know that I could just preorder it and send it back, if I don't like it, during the 30 days....but I'm just not that guy. It would have to really impress me, not just be a newer version, for the sake of new.
Sure, they offer it, but I see it as stealing value, because that is now a "used" tool. Going to the Recon would get them some of the money back, but the time/effort/shipping all cost too.

I'm kind of up in the air about it. This would have to replace the current one, because I still don't want to gain another battery platform, besides not needing two of them. So, is it worth the trouble? Plus, I would have to sell the other one, and is the market there for it, since there is a new version?

I went to one last year about 1 1/2 hours away, mostly because I wanted to visit the facility where it was happening. Then I missed the close local one, because I didn't realize it was the very next weekend.

Hey Euro & Brit guys...Do any of you know if the older DD-SS Eccentric attachment (490294) will fit the new CXS 12?  I have a DD-SS from a 2018 T18+3 and would rather not spend $140 on the newer model EX-UN Eccentric.  Thank you.

All the attachments have a so called FastFix connection.
So all these attachments should fit all older and newer model drills.
Even the new CXS12 and TXS12. With these new 12V models even the batteries do fit the same charger and the batteries can be used in 18V machines. But with less speed and power.

I believe that will work with the CXS-18 and the CXS-12 appears to have the same nose based on the photos at the Festool site, unlike the older CXS-"10". They show a photo of the CXS-12 with "all the goodies" including that mounting method.
