Hi Folks,
this Walko workbench is up for grabs:

The Walko Workbench is donated by me for this lottery, it is very slightly used but stands like new and comes with the accessories ticked on the box photo above. Who am I?: Henrik Rundgren from Sweden, Europe. Some sort of carpenter, forum member and metric man who is inches away from grasping the Imperial.

The original thread that led up to this sign up thread is here: http://festoolownersgroup.com/index.php?topic=6356.msg66801#msg66801
though this is the Q & A  and sign up thread, right here:

What is the Walko workbench?
It is a highly versatily and rugged, portable workbench that can be configured in many ways; as a worktable with mdf tops that are compatible with the clamps etc that fit the Festool MFT holes. It can be folded down to a sacrificial saw bed for breaking down sheet goods. It can be erected and put against a wall for supporting larger objects. It can be tilted and ... wait, I forgot what this does. Anyway, it's not a one trick pony. It comes with three additional supporting struts.

Why are you giving the supposedly great workbench away?
I like it, but I have faced reality: I can't fit it in the small shop, it's not my shop and it is already crammed. For on site work I use my MFT which I also store at home. Home is a small three room apartment with two cats and my fiancee. And a lot of speakers. And even more Festools... As it is the Walko was great when I replaced the window panes in the apartment with soundproof glass but I never even fitted the mdf tops so the bench is unsoiled and all accessories are like new. No glue residues, no marks, no dents. But it has been camping out in the basement a couple of months so I decided to give it away before spring cleaning. I could have sold it but I think this is much more fun.
It is an admission based lottery; admission is $10 This gets you a Dicket (Domino Ticket)

Why is there an admission?
Admission is to cover the cost of shipping for the Walko workbench. All surplus will be donated to the Forum.

So this isn't a scam to cram some money out of the Forum members?
No, I am donating the Walko Workbench. Nickao provides the payment and shipping services. Dan Clermont provides another payment method. Bill in Seattle performs the draw. There is no money in it for either one of us. As said, surplus goes back into the Forum. It's just for fun!

Who can participate
Draw is open to all Forum members that are registered from the 5th of March or before that date.

But I live outside of the US, can I still be in on this?
Of course you can, this is an international contest.

Who will administer the draw?
The draw will be using the Dominator, courtesy of Bill in Seattle, who will perform the actual draw.

Can I buy multiple Lottery Dickets?
No, one member, one ticket = equal chance to win.

Is there just a First prize?
No, there will be a 2nd and 3rd Prize too, worth more than the admission but yet to be specified.

How much is the prize value?
The Walko 3 costs around $730 in the US, excluding the extra support struts.

UPDATE 2nd PRIZE ANNOUNCED
Second Prize is a Porter Cable 690 Router, like new. Courtesy of Brice Burrell.
Shipping will hopefully be covered by admissions or else I will pay for it. Thanks Brice!
It would look something like this:

Sounds cool but How do I sign up?
Register yourself right here, in this thread.
Payment is to be made to Nickao using this nifty Google payservice through his website, credit cards are welcome:
http://majesticmedallions.com/Walko_Bench.html

...but I don't feel confident paying over the internet
Ok, then you can pay with money order or check to:

Walko Workbench Lottery
c/o Dan Clermont
316 North Ingleton Ave
Burnaby, BC
Canada
V5C-1T2

Then email your name to Dan at: dan@ultimatetools.ca

UPON REGISTRATION PLEASE ENTER YOUR PREFERRED METHOD OF PAYMENT as this helps us keep tab on the entries.

When is the last date to enter?
I decided to make it the 31st of March, last day of this month.
Draw will be held approximately one week after that. The one week delay is to ensure that our list of entries and payments are up to specs and that Bill in Seattle has enough time to write the names on the Dominos and perform the draw.

When will the winner be announced?
Around the first week of April, date to be announced. It will be announced in the Forum and a link provided to the video clip of the draw.

What if I win?
If you are the lucky one, the Walko workbench will be sent off to you at the address of your choice.
If you are winning 2nd or 3rd prize I will send you the items to the address of your choice.

What if I lose?
Then rest assured your $10 is a well invested admission; it makes someone here on the Forum a happy person and the surplus comes right back to your Forum. There are no losers.

No strings attached?
It would be cool if you posted a shot of yourself with the Walko, but there are no obligations.

Questions regarding payment are best made to Nickao and Dan Clermont respectively.
Other questions to me via PM. Try and keep this a uncluttered registration thread.
Thank you, let the fun begin!
:) Henrik

ENTRIES SO FAR:

Nick and I will try and keep track of you.

List will be updated as entries roll in.
Not on the list? Enter yourself in this thread, right here.

It's not clear to me how I can enter by signing up with Dan and sending him a cheque.

Let me add my thanks to Henrik for his unbelievable generosity.  I am relatively new to Festools and, until now, have not been much of a contributor to this forum.  That's owing mainly to the many distractions (chiefly, my family and long hours at work) that have kept me out of my workshop.  Thanks to Festool, though, I've recently been able to clean out some serious clutter and get the shop set up for actually building things.  I am constantly impressed by the creativity and passion of many of the regular contributors here, and I aspire to some measure of that.  As someone suggested, if I should be the lucky recipient of the Walko, it might take a while, but I'll plan to share my thoughts on it.

David

Oops.  Didn't see this new thread.  I submitted my $10 to Nick via Google.

Thanks
Ed

Truly is an international contest when the prize is in Sweden, Draw is being held in the US and a guy in Canada will be collecting draw entries via cheque and money order.

Please send me an e-mail to dan@ultimatetools.ca or PM when you send me money. Perhaps also PM or e-mail Bill at Festool Supply Bill@FestoolSupply.com as well so he knows to put your name on a Domino.

Dan Clermont

I don't think anyone's name should be put on a domino until you receive the money.  If people want to risk a delay using snail mail that's their choice.
"The check's in the mail" shouldn't warrant an entry.  Cash in hand=entry!

Ed Balaschak; don't worry, we got you.

Frank: by sending the $10 to Dan you are in, I would be glad to have you onboard. There is plenty of time for the check/money order to arrive.

David: most velcome.  :)

Dan C: thanks for the additional info! Will repost your email in the Q&A start of the thread.

After the time is up for entering the draw we will collect the names from Nick, as of the latest update posted in this thread + stragglers signing up late, together with Dan Clermonts list.
When all are accounted for we will make sure the names go out to Bill in Seattle for marking up the Dominos and then make sure the number of Dominos and the names are correct.

Please take your time reading the Q & A before submitting anything.

This is truly an International group.  I have enjoyed visiting with "friends" from all over the world for a couple of years already. Mostly directly thru the FOG in conversations open to all.  I have had personal conversations made possible thru, or as a result of info from, the FOG.  Several of my direct correspondences have been from all over the USA with people who I would never have known otherwise, had it not been for the FOG.  I have had direct discussions with friends from all over the world, Henrik being the furthest away to the East.  Some correspondences from/to good folks from in between Henrik and "this side of the pond".  I have gotten to know other friends from as far away as Austrailia to the west of Eastern USA.  A great guy by the name of Eli who just happened to have fallen off the edge somehow has written to me about things in his own country that he knew would be of special interest to me.  All great guys worthy of anybody's friendship.

Now, we have a character in Stockholm, Sweden who has grown weary of one of his latest toys making an offer to give that toy to someone else where it can actually be put to use.  A cranky guy (hey Nickao, I use that term with a great deal of respect) from Woodstock, Illinois offering his services with help in the logistics of moving the gift. A salesman from Burnaby, BC, Canada helping by taking payments from the interested Neanderthals who do not wish to become a part of modern civilization (I guess I'm in that group along with Frank)  And then we have another salesman offering his time by making out the lottery chips and saving until drawing day, at which time he will expend his energies by pulling the winning chip from out of the cookie jar from somewhere in the Northern/ Eastern Hemisphere, (Sorry, Bill, I do not know where you are).  And then we get back to Stockholm, from where the final shipment will depart for ?????.  I have not forgotten about the contractor in Pittsburgh, USA who will be shipping out the second prize.  It is entirely possible the prizes could cross paths by traveling in opposite directions past each other crossing the big pond, or could go in opposite directions away from each other, eventually girdeling the world from Sweden to Australia from both ways.

I am excited to see so much interest in this activity, not for the lottery itself, but to see so many good men pulling together and making the whole thing work.  Even tho my own name had been mentioned within the original posting and list of choices, I would not have known where to even begin (read "Neanderthal") to put such action together.  Now, we are talking about completion sometime in April. This is one great group.
Tinker
PS  My Neanderthal token will be heading towards BC in the morning.  A timeworn statement, I know; but hey, I'm from the stone age  8)

Henrik - thank you for this. I really can't put it better than Tinker did. I truly think you have hit on something here. What a great way to give back to the community. At this stage of the economy, you have come up with an idea that truly is world class! What a tremendous act of charity from a fellow woodworker. If this all goes without a hitch, I will consider an item for the future to offer up. With forums struggling to pay the bills, this could really be a life saver for them.
Pete

Thanks Brice Burrell for the second place prize. This whole thing is turning out to be something REALLY nice!

Hi Frank

You send me a cheque or Money Order. I will then post your name on this thread as a confirmation you are in the draw.

Because I am in Canada and it can sometimes take the "pony express" time to deliver mail up here I'd like to know when people mail me money so I can watch for it. Canada Post can sometimes be slow and I don't want anybody to miss the contest simply because of them

Hi all,

Being from the Netherlands, which is MUCH closer to Sweden then most of you guys are, I thought I'd chip in to save a bit on shipping :-) And besides, being a Dutchie I feel obliged not to pass on an opportunity like this - we're sorta famous for being cheap....

Pun aside, the generosity being displayed is humbling. I do believe that a tool unused is an opportunity lost and "redistribution" is a good thing, but I would certainly have a VERY hard time parting with something this nice ( I'm a bit of a Tool-junk)

I really DO like the idea of redistributing unused tools, and also like the idea of supporting this forum, it has been a very informative place so far, and I've only been lurking ( and learning a lot ! ).
So if there is any interest in another ever-so-modest prize, I do have a Flexcut FR803 palmhandle parting tool (http://www.flexcut.com/products/cart.php?target=product&product_id=1116&category_id=126) that I bought but never got to use and would be glad to donate to "the cause". It's in pristine condition, has been used in a couple of testcuts in pear wood, but no more. The plastic packaging it came in is a bit battered from being in a toolbox, but that's about all the wear there is. It's a small and lightweight item, and I would gladly pay for the shipping myself, as long as the winner is on this planet and reachable by mail.

On a side note: Since our domestic grid is 240V, the PC router is of no use to me. So should I be the lucky winner: please inform me so I can do the happy-dance, and then do a redraw so it ends up with someone who can actually use it.

Kind regards and please keep up the good work,

Job

This brings up a good point, If someone wins the second draw router and cannot use the tool due to voltage should that person be awarded choice to the other prize? and if so then the third draw would receive the second? and what if the the third draw cannot use the tool because of voltage as well?  Not to make the contest any more difficult than it has to be, should each person that could not use the tool because of voltage issues state so before the drawing and either have his domino put back in the machine or pick the other prize if available. This should be addressed prior to drawing in all fairness.
Any thoughts?
Bill

should really like the router but i'm on 240 volts too and if I win the router I will also pass it on to the 'next in line'

Well, I was certainly not trying to bring up any kind of point.....
I was only trying to prevent possible confusion, and the needless cost associated with shipping a tool to someone who won't be able to use it.
It's not like I'm forced into entering the draw, is it ? I'm with Nickao on this - it's not a big deal anyway for as far as I'm concerned.
It's a great second prize that's for sure, and I salute Brice for that. But I already have a couple of routers ( one of them an OF1010 EBQ with fitting insert in my CMS ) and as a European I probably wouldn't even know how to use a fixed base router anyway, even if the voltage issue weren't there - I'm just not used to it. Down here it's plunge routers all the way, or shapers.....

Actually, the reason I decided to join this drawing is at least partly because I think it's a great incentive, and a nice way to be able to support a forum that has been a great place to find all kinds of helpfull info. The fact that I've been drooling over a Walko workbench but just couldn't justify the expense plays a part as well....  ;-)

Might I be the lucky winner, I would gladly pay for the shipping myself - a Walko bench for the price of shipping from Sweden is a GREAT prize in my book, and that would leave the money from the admissions where it would do good: to support this forum and help assure it stays around. Either way I win.

BTW, I would like to apologise up front for any possible language screwups - I'm not a native speaker and may goof up now and again. I'll try to clarify whenever necessary.

Kind regards,

Job

Good point, I will offer a choice to the second prize winner, the router or a non-electric tool or accessory of approximately the same value. Give me a day or two think about it and I'll announce it here. Good luck to everyone entered!
